Has anyone in Washington gone through the process of entering this class on a vintage car or vintage recreation? Did you get a historic license plate or use an original? Any tips on jumping through the hoops for King county? Local DMV contact or branch that was helpful?

We have used Pierre License Agency in Lake City for years. They understand the title process and if you are a decent customer they will go out of the way to help you title a collector car or in my case cars in the early 1900's, early race cars, vintange Ferrari's

Of course you will need the required documetation and bill of sale. It helps now in the State of Washington to have some form of verifacation for the new weight requirement. It also helps to title and purchase a collector plate at the same time. If your car was purchased below what the state considers fair retail value(they have used several collector car guides and placed arbitrary values), you need a state provided form that allows you to list the reasons you paid less that they think its worth. This may be for needed body and paint work, mechanical issues, what ever reasons you have for a lesser value.

    1) Yes, twice with Vintage, Restored plates. Also Rynoshark has done it once and Marktii has done this twice as well as Kerry 330GT

    2) Original plate that coincided with the year of issue

    3) Tips: print out the page from their website as it will be rare if the person behind the counter knows what you're talking about. Hand them the printout and it will make easier on exactly what you want, but they typically need a few minutes to search for their process and then good things happen for you.

    4) For the first car I went to the Licensing Offices at Roosevelt/63rd in Seattle, the second to Kirkland on 85th but it didn't seem to matter. They'll still have to examine your license plate to make sure it fits the year series applicable for Restored Class you are applying for

Success at the Ballard office. I printed out all the documents, had all the paperwork, and had an overall pleasant experience. They actually seemed to be happy to be doing something different and see the old license plate. My biggest concern is the state patrol not in the know and unable to look up the plate in the system.

Very easy process. I've done it at the DMV on 85th in Kirkland.

    Congratulations!
Welcome to a registration with an expiration date of "PERM", no annual registration fees, no emissions testing needed and no front plate required.

I keep a copy of that DMV webpage in the glovebox because Law Enfiorcement may not always be up on this aspect of licensing. Never been asked to show it but you never know.
