The attached pdf (thanks Howard) summarises the results of the survey of 275 owners here (and elsewhere) that was undertaken prior to Xmas.

    Headlines:
    70% bought a Ferrari in the last 3 years;
    72% were built between 1985-1999
Most common were 355/360s at 12% each

    27% owned a 308 GTB/GTS in the past
    49% bought from a dealer
75% thought prior to buying the car was very good condition or better
30% thought the car was better than they'd expected when they got it
16% thought it was worse than expected
24% had a warranty of some type
    36% did a Pre-Purchase Inspection
Around 50% of PPIs found a minor or a major fault
25% paid the asking price or more
56% paid between 90-99% of the asking price

37% of respondents had sold or p/ex a Ferrari
    Most sold privately
63% were somewhat satisfied or better with the price they got
16% were somewhat dissatisfied of worse.
Most sold in under 1 month

There a few anomalous data entries.

If you have owned a used Ferrari and wish to complete the survey, it's here

Thanks to all who have bothered to date.

    Thanks for posting that John.
How sure can you be that all those who took part are/were Ferrari owners or do you have some sort of spoil rate for your survey?

Just one more question, who paid more than the asking price for their Ferrari? :D

There are a number of ways to clean data in any survey - this is the uncleaned raw data summarised. You are of course always vulnerable to people who are not truthful, but generally most people here appear to have been straightforward.

People who paid more than 100% are either referring to an auction estimate or are usually buying a "special" car, for example a particular Daytona Spider or an F40. Appreciating or very scarce cars have volatile prices (in both directions).

I am surprised at how few PPIs were done. I don't feel so bad now having not done one when I bought my 355 as it seems I am in the majority. I also think I am very, very lucky that nothing major has bitten me. PPI in the future for me, I don't think I can be lucky twice.

Yes, it is interesting that 64% of us did NOT( including me) get a PPI. I did question the mechanics that had serviced the car.

I didn't get a PPI either but did spend 30 minutes or so with the mechanic that serviced the car and conciderable time with the previous owner. Plus had all records to review.
