I need to touch up a resume. Can anyone spare a few minutes to help me brush it up? If so, PM or IM me.

Every single person you ask will give you different advice. I have shown my resume (CV) to half-a-dozen people in this past fortnight, and every single one of them has given me different feedback.

The tips that most seem to dwell on are:

*clearly state the basics - name, address, age etc
*put you professional/accademic qualifiacations at the top
*then put your jobs from most recent backwards. Intead of writting your autobigraphy, try to highlight what you 'brought to the table' in each role and put this as bullet point, not long paragraphs.

I hear that its big to put a sort of mission statement/objective on resmue's in the US too - some poeple like them, some poeple dont.

Hope this helps (or at least doesnt confuse!). I you like, I will take a look at your resume but you'll need to be quick sending it to me.

Avoid the 'objective', they all sound the same. I do a LOT of interviewing, and whenever I see a resume w/ an objective I discount it a little. They all sound the same, 'I want a great job with a great company that will give me a lot of opportunity.' It's BS, tell me what you've done and how it positively impacted your employer.

Probably too late to help you now, I left for a baseball game right after my last response. I'd start with qualifications, then go into work history and end with education. Qualifications would be something like 'Proven negotiation skills in a broad range of business environments' or 'Talented trainer capable of altering course material to target diverse student populations'. Off the cuff, but you hopefully get the idea.

I disagree, I'd put education first. Gives the person reading it an immediate background on the individual. Then list what you've done with that education and how it has benefited your employers.

If all you have is a high school education than I agree and would go straight to qualifications.

I'm more interested in your work history and experience than where or if you went to school. Some of the people I interview have been out of school 20 years, how relevant is their education at that point? Different strokes.

As I mentioned above, different people want different things. I was told on Monday to remove my school education and just leave on University and profession quals. Showed my CV to another agent today - first question? "Where are your school quals?"

    Keep the theme: Feature/Benefit.

Employers could care less that I've flown attack helicopters, briefed a Commanding General or commanded 150 Soldiers. Employers want to know how what you've done will produce results for them. Make direct examples.

Same goes for the interview. Tell me about yourself should be, "this is me (very, very briefly) and this is what I can do for you." Keep that theme.

Not bad, and very professional. Some particular jobs are aquired by "would I go to lunch with this guy a few times a week?" But of course, that isn't for every type of position. With this one company that I'm looking into, the only thing going against me is: I don't have an xbox and I'm not a fan of the xbox. (seriously)

That's easy. Buy one and get Halo 1 or 2. You'll be a fan. You'll also show in joking that you're jazzed about the company. Then get right back to you producing for them.

If you must take one out to lunch, so be it as long as it produces.

    i.e.
Feature: I took Joe and Sally out to lunch. They had a great time.
Benefit: Joe and Sally committed to buying a product.

Maybe you're looking in the wrong industry? I'd very much want to know that you've briefed a Commanding General because that tells me you have experience in high pressure face to face situations. The part about commanding 150 soldiers tells me that you have leadership experience. Doesn't mean you're a good leader, but you have experience.

LOL. I didn't say how I did just that I've done it!

By the way, do you have an application? ;)
