I did a number of searches and was suprised I couldn't find anything. What is the procedure to retarct caliper pistons on 308 ('83 euro GTS)?
I assume you are referring to the rear parking brake pads- here is one of many links(see link below). To retract the front pads- I open the bleeder screw and use a 2"-3" spatula (for plaster) to gently push the pads back to retract the pistons. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104636&highlight=parking+brake
For the Front, 1st: lossen the cap of the brk.fluid reservoir, then 2nd. after you pull out the caliper remove only one pad leaving the one thats on the piston side on, 3rd: using a brake piston retractor or a medium size C-clamp, turn the retractor or the C-clamp in (clockwise) untill it stop, as doing this the piston will retract back in and pushes the fluid back up to the reservoir.
try this /use a brake clamp, clamp caliper line.fit correct size SIX sided spanner over bleeder. connect bleeder hose /crack bleeder.remove 1x pad .retract pistons as above .go slowly as air can be trapped under boots and detach.fit one pad at a time.check new pads for sharp burrs on the metal backing.deburr if necessary.clean residue or dust out of caliper area where the pads slide in(brakekleen /toothbrush).this method stops residue in the lines or calipers finding there way into master cylinders .abs systems definitely do not compress old fluid through the lines .while your at it bleed the brakes they will thank you for it.suck the old fluid out with a hydrometer($2.00).add fresh fluid and bleed as you go round.(FAR WHEEL/CLAMP /RETRACT/1X PAD AT A TIME/ASSEMBLE/BLEED BY HAND /SMALL REGULAR MOVEMENTS LIKE BRAKING TRAVEL NO MORE THAN 2 INCHES. GOOD LUCK Tony
As it turned out...rear pads are retracted with the adjusting screws. (I assume the reason for these adjusting screws is to set clearance for the parking brake.) Front pistons pushed right in with a screwdriver. I've replaced the fluid in the entire system. Have bedded in the pads and now I will re-adjust the parking brake.
no I did not clamp caliper line???? first I've heard of this. some other posts suggested loosening or removing master cylinder cap to release fluid and to be careful it did not damage paint...
