Marc, May I ask how difficult it was to get entry to an event at Notre Dame Cathedral? I considered to attend Retromobile this year, with my underlying architect's objective to see Notre Dame restored, above all else. However, I knew this was going to be difficult, given how many people wish to see it, and also was discouraged by images of infinitely long lines to visit. I will have to be patient and book my travel for next year's show. I have heard a choir at Notre Dame in the past, and it was exquisite.
I was lucky as the California collector I am guiding this week came without his wife who cancelled her trip at the last minute so he had a spare ticket and invited me to that. All I know is he bought the tickets online so Google it. Two pieces of advice. The seats are not numbered so arrive early; we stood in line in the cold for over an hour but were tenth in line. There were maybe 600 plus people behind us when they opened the doors. Secondly bring a flat pillow. Very uncomfortable chairs. But...it was Divine, heavenly and I will do it again. It is a major tribute to mankind, culture and civilization that this icon of western civilization was built so long ago AND restored after that fire, on schedule, within five years with hundreds of talented French craftsmen. Proud of France for this: respect. Oh and make sure you visit Amiens cathedral, two hours north of Paris: 800 years old and it dwarfs Notre Dame in size. I visited in September and was stunned.
31m hammer to phone bidder. DK Engineering had the 30.5m bid and Jmb classics was bidding as well. Good result but was expecting more.
I was at retromobile Friday. On the way I stopped at Notre Dame just to see the exterior about 9:30 am. I had been unable to get a timed visit reservation on the website. Surprisingly the line for walk ins without tickets took no longer than fifteen minutes. It was amazing inside. Still lots of work ongoing on the exterior
As mentioned in the other thread it will come to Switzerland (French speaking area, small town with 1'600 people living there). Marcel Massini
Is it the same Swiss guy there that has like 5+ McLaren F1s? Speaking of which, two of his cars were there. 053 (white F1 road car) and 16R (short tail GTR BMW Fina livery). Were Simon Kidston and Joe Macari actually selling those F1s or just on display for grabbing attention? Both cars combined worth about as much as the 250 LM as well. Yes, February is a great time to be a tourist there. Two years ago I decided to go to Louvre and Eiffel tower top view last minute and just walked up to a 5 minute wait in line for both. No reservations required. Amazing trip to see Retromobile and the iconic landmarks. Got to see Notre Dame under construction at least driving by.
If Retromobile wasn't crazy enough, a passenger jumped off my flight while taxiing, just before the take off procedure. Luckily, Iberia provided us accommodation for that night and another flight next morning, but half of the passengers were brought back to the plane and flew that night. https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/international-airlines-group-iag/iberia/serious-incident-at-paris-orly-airport-passenger-jumps-onto-tarmac-from-emergency-exit/ Jorge HG
For the ones interested in the incident, I took some pictures: Firefighters around the plane at first, Fire Rescue inside and to liven up the wait... having a sight to Artcurial auction. Jorge HG Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
