Jag has reintroduced the XJ6 nameplate with the introduction of a V6 in Euro (UK?) only XJ's. I was wondering about the engine. Is it a Jag design or a Ford hand over?

Old 6's were great, second only to the ol' V12's. :)

Unfortunately, Ford hand over which is unlike the rest of the engines in the line up.

The 3.5, 4.0, 4.2, and 4.4 V8's (the 4.4 going in the Rover) are all based on the Jaguar V8 which started development in 1989 using XJ40 test mules right before the Ford take over. As you know, the 3.2 inline six block and Aston head and tuning went into the DB7 and the AJ-34 block is going to be the basis for the Aston AMV8.

A far better engine is the turbo diesel 2.7 compared to the 3.0 V6. I expect 2.7 sales to vastly eclipse the 3.0 V6 sales, since bringing back the XJ6 nameplate was necessary in order to fit the 2.7 into the line up.

I don't give the 3.0 V6 much thought, to be honest!

    Interesting, thanks for the info!

Sad they didn't use a Jag design.

The just had that 6 on a Top Gear show I just watched (rerun maybe). The guy that test drove said it was a very surprising car for the money and yeah it might not go as quick as the other Jags but it was well worth the money.
