Hello, I returned from checking out the 328 late last night. The car was in exceptional condition. In fact, just what I was looking for. We looked over the car for about an 1.5 hours when my cousin noticed that the rear bumper was misaligned. Which after extensive examining beneath the car and the rear quarters then lead me to discover the right rear quarter panel having fine scratches beneath the paint. Hence some sort of body was performed on the rear of this vehicle, using bondo I suspect. The sub-frame was ok no signs of re-welding or repositioned washers, etc, etc. There was a new bracket for the lower suspension arm, on the same side as the body work. Long story short - I passed on it. Very disappointed, to say the least.
Did you drive the car? If there is no frame problem on a 20 year old car, and it drives correctly, why not negotiate if all the other aspects of the car are good? BT
Could be a story there, or maybe not. The rear bumper on my '87 isn't perfectly aligned, but everything's original underneath and it has never been hit. You'd also shake your head at some of the factory paint and metalwork on these cars (complete with bondo underneath). You may be right that it was repaired, but if you really like it I'd get an expert to have a look. My two lira...
Bullfighter is right. If you look closely at any 308 or 328, you will find some misalignment, waviness, etc. The two sides are never identical in fit. The factory also used lead as filler. That doesn't mean this car was not hit at some time, but it takes someone really qualified to know for sure in some cases. Dave
