    Morning all

Got back around 12 last night from a terrific 8 days snowboarding and sightseeing in NZ, south island

This was my first trip to NZ and I grew to love the place very quickly. Heres a quick rundown of events.

Flew into Christchurch, picked up hire car (manual echo sedan with 260,000kms!!) and drove the ~ 1hr to the town of Methven, situated at the foothills of the Mt Hutt ski area and surrounding alps.

Methven is a tiny place consisting of a couple of pubs and cafes, ski shops, B&B's and a small residential area. Much smaller than say Lorne in Vic for comparison, and just a beautiful place to be. Its obviously geared towards skiers and indeed, whichever way you turn you view the snow capped alps outside of town. We rented an lovely old self contained house with a great log fire and i rekon i could have stayed for a month!

Next 3 days were spent skiing/boarding Mt Hutt, a mere 15 mins from town. 2m of snow (and 35cm more since we left!), and altogether more laid back atmosphere than Aussie ski resorts given how mainstream and accessible snowsports are to the Kiwis.

We then left Methven bound for Queenstown, a 5hr drive through some of the most breathtaking scenery ive ever witnessed. Glassy lakes with snow covered mountains rising from the shores is something i wont forget.

Queenstown is a very trendy place to be. Felt very much like being in Aspen, even down to the designer clothing boutiques. Very upmarket, and very cold given it hovered around Zero in town and -2 to -5 at Coronet Peak where our last 2 days on the snow were spent.

With great sadness we packed the car yesterday morning and made the 6hr trek back to Christchurch to come home....and I could have easily stayed on for a whole month. What a place!

Im not clued up on hosting pics on this forum....if i emailed them to someone could they be put up?
