I got conflicting reports from the folks at Auto Gallery. Any of you F430 F1 owners know if hitting redline forces a shift, or hits a rev limiter? Is it driving mode dependent?

    Thanks,

    Richard

I'm not an owner, but am pretty sure that when going up the gears, you hit a limiter.

When coming down the gears though, I can't remember whether it allows you to shift down if doing so would hit the limiter (i.e. I think it stops you from downshifting if doing so would cause the engine to hit the limiter).

my car changed up when it was on the dyno at red line . car won't let you change down if it's going to valve bounce

An F430 will up shift in any mode except in "Race" and/or "CST" where the car will not change up. It will just stay on the rev limiter until the driver change gear. In any other mode the car will upshift once you hit the limiter, and in "ICE" mode the car will upshift as soon as you hit 3000rpm.
The car however, regardless of the driving mode, will downshift if you are on a high gear and decelerating or coming to a stop.

I often wondered the same question, I guess that solves it. On a side note, Nasharty, you have the most beautiful 430 that I have ever seen. One question, couldn't you get any more carbon fiber? ;)

    Thanks.

I wish I could get even more CF. I love CF. But that's all what Ferrari has on the options list. Of course aftermarket parts exist, but I am still looking into which part exactly I would want in CF.

thanks nasharty, i was also pondering this the other day:
What if you go from a stop in say, 3rd gear, will the car let you do that, or do you have to start in 1st, will it stall? or will it not let the car upshift until you start moving? thanks

Another question: Is the rev limit the same in the Sport vs Race cs CST mode?

My Maserati QP rev limits at ~7300rpm (regular) and ~7600rpm in sport mode.

Does anyone use "ice" mode for anything other than slick roads? Seems like it would make a great 'valet' mode in the rare instance that a valet might park at a nice restaurant for example. Any way to 'lock' into ice mode?

nothing that a bit of scotch tape on the steering wheel knob couldn't fix ;)

You are pretty gutsy giving your car to a valet...with or without the scotch tape, I wouldn't do it....

reason?: When I was in University....some of my classmates were Valets..some of the stories I heard, made me "valet wary' long before I ever had my 1st decent car...

What I normally do, is tip the valet well -- they will get you the best parking spot, and let yu park it there your self..

The car will change gears at around 8100rpm in "Rain" or "Sport" modes. In "Race" or "CST" the car will go up to 8500rpm and stay there until the driver change gears. And as I mentioned earlier, in "ICE" mode the car will change gears as soon as it hits 3000rpm.
