Was meant to be retained already this year but mclaren opposed it because they have no sponsors to put on it

I know that...my understanding is that they were going to return next year, though. Has that changed?

They nearly got it right (for what they can do)....but the even wider front wings? Stupid. Should've made them smaller. Less chance of damaging them = more attempts at overtakes

Looks like they'll be less susceptible to a loss of downforce in the wake of another car, so perhaps there'll be more attempts at overtakes as a result since cars will be able to follow more closely through highspeed corners.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

the problem is the sticky out wings (already)...the smallest touches and these things fall apart, needing them to pit. Even wider makes it worse. I guess with the simpler wings and far fewer elements, less falls off...In any case it's better than now.

Nothing new to look at that represents a real change in car design. Just more crappy aero stuff.

These enormous front wings look very vulnerable and the drivers can hardly judge their size.

Expect more bits of carbon fiber laying on the track in 2019.

That may provoke more punctures and decide the outcome of some races.

Simplifying the front wing was a great decision, making it wider, a more confusing one.

I am very happy to see that the fuel load will be increased. There is nothing worse than hearing that the lead cars are coasting to save fuel.

I want to see these cars race, it’s bad enough that drivers are turning down engine power to ensure the 3 power units can last a season. When they drive for fuel management as well, we lose out on what should be more competitive driving.

How long before the Formula one cars move to an enclosed cockpit?

+1 The fuel savings is so ridiculous. It may be the one thing I hate most about the current state of F1.

If you want overtaking, simply ban all the wings, winglets, barge boards, diffusers,.....
But they really DON'T want overtaking......

F1 is an open-wheel and open-cockpit series for "monoposto". The halo has been widely resisted.

The adoption of enclosed cockpit could be a step too far, be very unpopular and see a massive exodus among the fans.

It's obviously increasingly difficult to dice wheel-to-wheel with other competitors, as the cars become very unstable when in close proximity.

With Ross Brawn recruited as adviser to draw the next regulations, I was expecting him to bring some solutions in the field of aerodynamics to remedy that, but it doesn't seem that he has an answer.

The aeros have been the bane of F1 since they were introduced back in the late 60s, but I guess they can't (or won't) put the genie back in the bottle.

It's unfair to say 'they' don't want over taking. The sticking point is the solutions you propose will significantly slow the cars and will have the overall appearance of dumbing it down... which the FIA, FOM, and the teams are all against.

It's simple to make it sound easy...actual implementation is going to be challenging.
