OK, as I'm planning out the reverse camera project on my 430 right now I have settled on a rearview mirror display powered by the overhead light area with a wireless connection so that I won't have to run a wire though the firewall.

I do not plan on using the included license plate camera that comes with the mirror display, but to purchase a spare Ferrari rear license plate light lens part #186180 and using a plexiglass drill bit to put a hole in the plastic lens and install a camera like the one below one to mimic the unavailable and expensive factory camera kit.

    So my questions are...

Has anyone replaced the mirror with an aftermarket one? Did you use an included adapter to attach the mirror? Is the ferrari windshield mount a standard one shared by another major manufacturer? I do have a spare interior Ferrari F430 rearview mirror that had delaminated that I could scrounge for parts and make an adapter, but would prefer not to.

Do I need to remove the bumper to snake the wire though the rear license plate light lens area? I don't recall when I remove the rear diffuser if I can see the wiring to the license plate lights. I would obviously prefer not to remove the bumper, but diffuser is ok.

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

You don't have to remove bumper, I ran my wire and was able to get to everything from the top engine bay area. I ran it behind the black rear structural beam and over to the side compartment and then up into the cabin. I know you aren't going that far, but you can go over to the side compartment and get power from the reverse light. I didn't do a mirror install, so I can't comment on that.

Corey, I am thinking of something similar. Which rearview mirror display have you settled on?
    thanks!

I have a Garmin wireless camera which auto displays on my sat nav screen when reverse selected. Signal wire tapped into reversing light, wireless electronic box mounted behind the engine side cover and camera cable through bumper via the license plate light assembly.

I'm still decided because I may run the wire from the camera. If I do, there are mirrors that can do airplay from my iPhone. If I decide to go wireless, I think I will use this one on amazon.

But I won't use their camera. I have a better idea for something more OEM looking.

Thanks. On my existing setup this is what I use, very similar to what you had mentioned above.

I also got this but havent tried it out yet, advantage is not drilling of holes etc.

I don't plan on drilling holes. I also don't like the license plate bracket. I tried one of those before and didn't like it, plus I have the original license plate from for the Ferrari dealer which first sold my car on it.

I was planning on using a replacement license plate light lens and drilling it using a plexiglass bit and then mount the camera to that. That is essentially what the OEM camera was when Ferrari offered the after-sales flip out screen radio on the car with the backup camera option.

    Cheers,
    Corey
