Does anyone know of a free service that is somewhat good? I got a call from a potential client I met on a golf course a month ago and I didn't catch his last name and I am a little embarrased to call and ask him! His number is still on my phone.

    Any ideas?

If you know his address you can do it. Otherwise, SOL.

Ok, I have a ridiculous request...

Can someone offer to call this gent and ask who they are speaking with, then say, "Oh, I was looking for a man named Chinetti" and act like it was the wrong number?

    :D:D:D

    PM me!

Call him, say you need to know how to properly spell his name for some paperwork. Not quite the same as asking it but the result is the same.

Easy. Block your number and call. He may not answer and his message may give his name or he may answer and say this is John. Regardless, don't be a chickenshlt, just call and say I met you etc. but I forgot your name. He'll appreciate the honesty.

Not likely, he got my number from the business card I gave him, lol

None of the suggested sites have worked for this particular number. But a couple of sights say it is a land line based in New Orleans. Then another one says it is a land line based in Metairie, LA. And about half of the sites say they have the name if you pay them $15 or so. I'll just call tomorrow.

In college I never caught any of the girls first or last names. Somehow it worked out alright, just call and say hey it's "your name here."

That tests if they remembered YOU or YOUR name... :)

You can use this site to find out where the line is out of and who provides the service. http://www.areacodedownload.com/985/

replace "985" with the area code of the number and it will give you a list of numbers

    Try this: www.sprintip.com

    Type in the number.
After it starts dialing, or even a little before, you can start typing. The operator will read exactly what you type. You can talk back and forth using this, unless the guy hangs up and it will read [Ans. Hung Up..operator number]. Try it out. Oh, and don't give me your number, because if I am bored in my computer class, you will be expecting a call. :D I play pranks on only people I know, so don't worry. :)

You can try this maybe ?:

If YOU have caller ID, call the number, hopefully nobody will answer, leave a msg 'This is so-and-so, we met golfing the other day, I'm going next week, if you would like to join me, give me a call', and if he calls, his name might register on your caller ID, incoming cells do on mine. Make sure you call at a time when he is more than likely not home...

    _or_

Possibly GO to the golf course and see who the tee time was registered under when you golfed with him ? Calling the course never works, you gotta go there.

    _or_

Last resort: just call him, and 'accidentily' call him Bob, he will correct you, and then just comment you had just finished talking to a 'Bob' and you were still thinking in that mode.... either that, or call him 'Tiger' (as in Woods).
In fact, cal him, and say 'Is this the Tiger Woods I golfed with the other day ?'.

    _or_

Other last resort: GO to your cell phone provider adn ask them to tell you who it is...... they might be able to...

What is the big deal? So you forgot the guy's name. It happens. Pick up the phone, call him and say "This is John. Hey, great to hear from you...I'm a little embarrassed, we only met once, but I'm knocking myself out trying to remember your name." He'll get a chuckle out of it. I forget names all the time.

Here's another way to go about it if you don't want to admit it.

Call and ask him for his email. Tell him you are going to send him your complete contact info and would appreciate it if he'd do the same. Mission accomplished.

Me? I'd just admit it and move on.
