Finally collected my MY2015 California T yesterday. Absolutely love the car. Only niggle was that it didn't have the reversing camera listed on the spec.

I'm addressing this with the dealer and have put some feelers out to the two Authorised Ferrari service centres in Portugal, however I would expect the usual exorbitant quotes as they will probably want to replace the rear bumper (to add the camera), add a wiring loom, replace the transmission haha blah blah.

There is some info on the forums but its from many years back and was for the original California rather than the T.

There were some aftermarket companies offering a camera but most no longer do, with the exception of Naviks; https://naviks.com/i-24075681-2015-2017-ferraricaliforniat-rear-front-camera-interface.html

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this system and would recommend it?

A reversing camera is easy to add yourself if you have some skills.
The Camera is attached to the back of the NIT on pins 31,32,33. 31 = Cam input pos, 32 = Cam input neg, 33 = camera Shield (ground).
Then a simple Arduino nano with a can bus decoder like an MCP2515 can act as a can bus filter between the head unit and the Canbus wire. Your simply send the correct can bus code to the head unit and it will turn on the input to show the attached camera.

Then if you really want to turn it up a notch you can even attach a front camera as well and have your Arduino Nano flip between front and left cameras via a simple relay.

That is basically what the NAVIKS unit does. Except its crazy expensive for the Ferraris and 1/3rd of the price for the same thing for Chrysler units.

    Hey Scott,
Thanks again for your help. Unfortunately I have no skills haha.

I did speak to NAVIKS and they were extremely unhelpful and as you pointed out they are basically selling 30 bucks of components for over $700 and it doesn't even include a camera.

I'm still waiting for Ferrari Lisbon to confirm whether they can retrofit the factory camera (things move slowly in Portugal).

I do know some smart guys with 'skills' that could follow your instructions and fit a camera. my only concern is that they would need to potentially splice/join cabling to the electrical system. My fear is if I then have an electrical fault, Ferrari will blame the 'modification' and not cover it on the warranty.

If they can't retrofit then I will probably get a wireless kit. The number plate ones look easy to install and can connect to a smartphone, which I'm using as a GPS anyway as the factory one is terrible.

    cheers

You don't want to splice into the harness. Ferrari uses standard connectors and you simply make a harness that plugs into the OEM one. That way it is reversible.

I own a Cali30, my wife would like a better camera (wider angle, sharper image, ...). The car is under warranty, but warranty or not, I do not want to touch any electrical parts. Looking into the subject, must be wireless. What would you recommend, something not difficult to install and easy to operate?

Making a harness that plugs unto the OEM system isnt hard. I wouldn't bother with a wireless camera, and would simply run a wire from the NIT to the rear. The harness depends on the year of the car since Ferrari changed the NIT Units quite a bit. Frankly if you have an old NIT, I would suggest upgrading to something better that has camera inputs and such.

I'm in the same boat - I've looked at the Garmin BC40 - which is a great camera - HD 720 and it takes 2 x AA batteries (many of the other wireless cameras require connecting to power which is challenging on the California) which need changing approx every 3 months. Unfortunately it only connects to a Garmin Drivesmart 55 + upwards. I'm not a huge fan of Garmins personally and its just one more thing to mount to the dashboard as I already have my smartphone mounted - for Waze and speed camera alerts :)

There used to be a few companies making licence plate cameras (battery powered) with a smartphone app but unfortunately they've gone out of business.

Will keep exploring and post findings..

Thank you for the information. Going to look into the combo Garmin BC40+Drivesmart (first by making sure the view is much better, sharper and bigger than the Ferrari camera that came with the car).

Now, for the front, not possible it seems to have such a camera because in Florida we do not have plates in the front of the car (+ would the Drivesmart work with both cameras, meaning no need to have 2 of them?).

I don't know what the resolution of the Ferrari infotainment system is but the screen size is 6.5inch. If you pair the BC40 with a higher resolution Garmin satnav of similar size; Garmin 65 upwards, then it will be 1280 x 720 video. I tested a 65 and the BC40 in a store and the picture looked sharp and very clear. You can also pair up to 4 cameras to one satnav so you could have one at the front as well. Fitting might be more tricky without a number plate, but I'm sure a decent mechanic could make it work. I can send you some video once mine is fitted, it's going in for PPF at the end of the week and he's going to fit the camera as well.

In the California T, the resolution is 800 x 450. The camera system they use is an LVDS system on those cars. You can hook up a regular camera to the pins on the harness for video, but once again you need to make a can bus filter to flick the video on and off.

I have a Ferrari ff 2015 with reverse camera, but unfortunately the camera lens is damaged therefore, the quality became very poor! Is there a way to buy an aftermarket camera and just connect it?? Any other suggestions?

Depends on the camera you buy. If it is the same format, then you can simply plug it in. If it is not, then you need to do what I stated earlier.

Ive been working on a 3d birds eye camera system with DVR parking recorder and AI obstacle detection for our cars that will interface with the OEM Head Units. More to come in a few months after I get the circuit boards back.
