I know there has been much talk about the updated/revised 612 and when it is coming. I am currently in Maranello and there is a 612 with a modified hood being driven around the factory. Being inside the factory gates, photo's were not allowed and I never saw it leave the grounds. The body looks standard 612 but the hood has two very large ducts on the areas similar to the ducting on the 599 hood. however, the ducts are raised off the hood rather than recessed and they flow towards the windsheild. stranglely, it made the front area look a little like Mickey Mouse. the 612 was black in color and we saw it driving by twice, once at the beggining of the tour and once about halfway through. I am not certain that this is the revised 612, however, it has something unique about it.
This is interesting news. I know they have those "No Photography" signs, but a few spy photos could have had you earning a pretty penny my friend . I imagine the 'updated' 612 is simply going to be a slightly revised car with minimal body changes. Think of the 456 and the updated 456GT. For the most part the only destinctly noticable body work done on the GT were the hood vents on the wheel wells, so the vents you say were on the car seem like a likely addition. I hope they will give it more power, and the 599 steering wheel... Or just scrap the idea. Best Jon
Is that actually a 612 in the picture? It looks a bit small to me, although it is hard to judge. In other words, I wonder if it is something else disguised as a 612... Jonathan
that is the car. however, the hood didnt have tape over it, it had ducts that pointed towards the windshield. imagine cutting a plastic two liter cola bottle in half. place the neck area facing forward and the bottom of the bottle towards the windshield.
Sounds kind of like the ducts in the 456GT hood? I have to admit, I'm quite fond of those reverse hood scoops that the 456GT (and the Daytona) have. I think they aided cooling as well, by giving the air a cleaner escape path from the radiator, but that's just a guess.
they werent recessed into the hood, they were extending out of the hood. the 456 and daytona have recessed ducts, these ducts are the opposite, similar to the air outlets on the 250 gto.
Sorry to say it chaps, but you can't turn mutton into lamb... The 612 is never going to be a pretty car...
interesting note. after you posted, it does and i think the scalloped sides are in fact missing. i am pretty sure what i saw was a 612, but it was across the way and only a front view, but i almost certain this car in the photo is the car we saw. i didn't think that it looked too small to be a 612 at the time
You boys missed a couple things. Note the brake duct behind the door a la 599. Note the revised front valence for better cooling.
on more picture from the rear, I think it may have been a 599 in development rather then a revised 612 Image Unavailable, Please Login
taken from the general discussions forum: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167182 this 599 shows the same type of "raised" hood bulges
the threads have been awefully quite about the 612 running around with the modified body. has anyone seen or heard anything new?
Here are a couple pictures of a 612 spotted is September- ...Italian automotive magazines are rather clueless...nothing but wild guesses so far. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
this is the exact car i saw in september. it was driving back and forth on the inner factory road that intersects into the painting building
I really wonder what it hides under its bonnet... The revised 612 should be due in the not so distant future so it would be reasonable to presume that they were testing it, or maybe the 612's body was hiding something entirely different (F149?). I guess only time will tell.
This is something very interesting... I think this is a very inside hint that something at Ferrari is going on... -J
