To me this is beging to be a cheaper vette. But that new hood just looks like a cheap after market fiberglass piece that dosnt fit right like I've allready see on so many grand prixs.

The hood is an option for 05. So you wouldnt have to get it if not inclined.

POS overall. Only the engine is worth anything. Its like when those idiots took the Ventura, put a shaker hood on it in the mid-70's, and called it a GTO, no difference. So, in this case its still a 4year old design from Austraila.

Pontiac really blew it on this one. (And yepper Im not happy especially being a 1970 GTO owner back in highschool).

They needed to take the tail and put some tastefull dual tip duals on it (and not those fake splitters), nice small 70's style ram-air scoops 3/4 way up the hood, and widen the upper/outer body areas a bit. (heck even find a way to put a wing on the tail like on the Judges)

The overall car has quality, saying its a pos is a bit much. The car does run true duals front to year you know as well. And Im sure you know back in the GTO heyday all it was, was a gussied up Lemans or Tempest. Car designs were just different then and had more character. The car does look much better in person and is a good performer. But dont worry GM is building a new GTO in a couple years.

You are totally right. My 66 Lemans would be a GTO if it had the 389 instead of the 326 and different taillights thats it

OK........I agree I went a bit far with POS. Interior is nice, drivetrain is not bad, suspension could be better. (when i said duals, I meant duals all the way from front to rear which they didn't do on the 2004)

I was thinking along the lines that Ford is doing with their next Mustang, to put the Mach1 face on it which reminds you it was a Mustang. When I saw the new GTO I was hoping to see... (if you put in a line-up with 100 other cars) to say "Yep, its a GTO")

I just get a but angry when these companies release something just to do it, versus puting out the product right the first time.

Impressive #'s under the hood. The concept is missing the mark. At first glance; it looks like a compact airport rental car. My first fun car was a 1968 GTO. That was 1981. You could buy an original Mercedes Gullwing for around 75K back then.

The sad thing is that they probably (could) have done this thing correct. The front end is all wrong. Why did they not bring in Jim Wangers ? They will gradually begin to improve the design. It will be too late by then. Remember the Fiero, at the beginning and the end ?

I say the GTO has more right than wrong; however, I understand what those who want it to be more than a rehashed Aussie model are saying.

The interior is nice, the engine is supposed to be great - but the exterior looks so Chevy Cavalier/Grand Am/Grand Prix/Alero/etc... the body is just so UNexciting it's unbelievable they dumped a marketing campaign into it.

I would say, if I were a GM exec, taking one look at that exterior I would have said, "try again."

I disagree with those that say the car is a POS.

I think it is probably the best car to ever wear a Pontiac badge. Like others, I dislike the styling. I don't really understand it, either. I feel like if GM had been willing to simply make the front and rear fascia a bit more angular, the entire car could have been saved.

As it is, GM (Pontiac) gave their most exciting car the most boring styling. I think the interior is a big step in the right direction, as well. Much better than nearly every other GM vehicle.

I disagree. Perhpas you could say it was the best muscle car, but if you go sit in and test drive a new GTO, the interior is night and day. A few years ago, I was strongly considering buy a TransAm, but the interior is why I couldn't bring myself to do it (That, and the deplorable resale value).

The GTO is an all around "car", not just a muscle car. I don't know about the rest of the country, but around here I have seen them brand new, asking around $24k (sticker is 32 or 33). They are NOT selling. So at the same price as my Honda Accord, I think it is a very good car (Though obviously I chose long term reliablility/resale value over performance)

Well I have to agree the TA interior had some issues[Why could they not make the hump in the passenger side disappear?!]. I have sat in a GTO[was at the NY Auto show so I've never test driven one] and the interior is nice, but so boring none the less. Maybe the car handles like a dream, i dunno since i've never drove one, but with the overall boring styling[i think we both agree the styling of the GTO needs work] i feel the far superior exterior styling of the WS6 is so far ahead of the GTO as to outweight its problemmatic interior vs the nice interior of the GTO.

I fear if I say its the best muscle car, these old school muscle guys will come down hard on me but I'll say a WS6 definitely isn't the best all around car.

You speak of deplorable resale value in reference to the WS6, yet you praise the GTO? GM cant even get them off the lot, let alone expecting the car to retain its value as an owner.

I personally think the 89 Turbo T/A was the best pontiac performance car. It was the one that broke all the top speed records, and is argueably quicker than the LS1 equipped cars.

I don't, and never will, own a GTO. I was simply stating one of the downsides of the WS6 (not saying it applies exclusively to that car)
