Stunning 400 For Sale (1979) on Car And Classic UK [C359287] Two 400 in a garage, one for sale...Any idea ?
Seeing as this car is pretty much the same as mine (mine has 10k less miles on), is the price of £25,000 anything like realistic ?
I could but doubt that there's much point. I don't think that carbed cars hold any real price premium at this point in time (especially auto) so can see no way that the car is likely to sell at anything near this price even if it's in A1 perfect condition. Only time will tell which variants of the model will become most desirable - selfishly I hope that only the price of Blue 1978/79 low mileage carbed autos will sky rocket !!
"fully restored" said twice is a pretty bold statement. I wonder what is the seller's definition of that?
A very valid point. Also, the pictures are few and of very poor quality so don't exactly show the car in any detail. If it was closer to me I'd definitely call the seller and take a look but it still seems way too dear to me. That said, if it does sell for the asking price (or at least close to it) there's hope for us all! I'm travelling in that direction next week so may try to have a look if not too far out of the way.
I agree Russell £25k is a lot for a 400 in the uk. Too much currently in my mind, but currently there's a higher mileage (70k ithink )manual restored for £28k so then you could say it's not foo high , but then there's also an auto for £16k which has just been reduced which doesn't look all bad. Like I said before , under £15k there are buyers and it doesn't seem to matter what the the condition within reason. Over £20k is a tough sell unless it's ex celeb owned mint and manual
All true BUT few pre injected cars come up for sale, either auto or manual BUT contrary to this statement a manual 400 just got whisked away to upside down land for around half the price of the car mentioned here. It's all very confusing, there genuinely doesn't seem to be any pattern as to the value of these cars. Which is a shame because they are worth more than the market currently dictates and we deserve some stability.
Enjoy the car, no matter what that means (driving it like there's no tomorrow, working on it, giving rides to others in it, whatever) You'll have a lot more fun with it if you don't look at it as on investment...'cause it isn't. Hate to say it but they're consumables Oh...& $$$ sponges!
Couldn't agree more ! Always knew that there wasn't really any investment potential here (probably quite the opposite) and making money was never the goal. I bought because I've always loved these cars and was worried that IF they went up significantly I'd never be able to afford one. Maybe long term things will change but either way I don't really care. I'm happy with my choice, she's been very fair to me so far running cost wise - hopefully that will continue for many years/miles to come.
