This is not something I'm contemplating, but, at a recent meeting of our local Italian car club, one of the guys asked me whether I'd ever thought about having my car converted from right-hand-drive to left-hand-drive. My answer was no, the foremost reason being cost and the secondary reason being that I'm pretty well used to RHD. Finally, if I ever do decide to sell the car (like when I'm 85 or so), it will be just as easy for me to export it to the UK or some other RHD country so that I don't have to make a price concession. The only real handicap with driving a RHD car in a LHD country (or vice-versa) is visibility when attempting to pass another vehicle on a 2-lane road.

When the discussion turned to cost, the number I threw out off the top of my head as a wild guess was $40-50K minimum (which certainly rules it out for me). Does anyone have a better idea? Even the footwells are different! And who would even be able to do it correctly? Just curious.

Did think about in once but lhd to rhd. I understand that parts of the chassis are actually slightly different where the central transmission tunnel is and it was viewed to be a difficult task. Not impossible but expensive and difficult. Why bother as lhd / rhd markets are at parity - might as well sell what one has and buy the wheel on the other side rather than change it. But an interesting question nonetheless as on alot of cars its easy - db astons/etypes etc.

Selling and swapping would be out of the question for me as this car was purchased new by dad in the UK in '74. Too much sentimental value attached. Otherwise, you're right. That would be a better option than a conversion, for sure.
