Here are some of the remains of the Rheims Grand Prix Circuit in Northern France, which we ran up and down at legal speeds yesterday, 240mph straight in an open Ferrari or 240F Maseratti must have been quite something to achieve. Fangio and all the top stars of the day raced at Rheims, in the good old days when Bernie and Co were just a twinkle in Fathers eye.

Yep, and just think I covered it over with something else so nobody would see it.

    Damn!

I missed out on that one.

Arrived last again to that Checkpoint, in fact i think i got lost and arrived last on every check point :). They did all wait for me before starting dinner which i thought was very good of them.

Thanks for the photos Dave and as Jim Bowen would have said, "Heres what you could have won!"

    Until next time :(

    Brilliant pics, thanks.

The last GP there was in 1967, won by Brabham at 136.9 mph average.

There was a 12-hour sports-prototype race until 1967, the fastest lap in 1967 was 142.30 mph by a Lola T70-Chevvy.

For info I've heard that ther guy who owns Folembrey has bought the remains of the old circuit, apparently there are plans to run a new road through so that the original circuit can be made permanent

I'd be grateful if somebody could post directions of how to find this place, preferably from the autoroute.

I have driven through Reims countless times, but I've never really strayed off the motorway that runs through the city.

Ususally I'm "on a mission" to get my overnight stop in Switzerland, but I'd love to stop-off there and look around the old pits without spending hours looking for the place.

    Anybody care to help ?

    Thanks...

    Look for the junction of the N31 & D27 west of Reims - near exit 22 on the A4 - Lat/Long 49.256 N 3.938 E - as I recall the buildings are along the D27

That's some atmospheric place there. Everyone should go at some point. Been there in the 7 and 355 a couple of times apiece.

Great noises possible as you go between the stand and pits.

If they do put a proper circuit there again, it'd be nice if they kept this bit as is and built a proper pit complex elsewhere.

I understand the original buildings are to be kept :)

Junction 22 of the A4 Paris to Metz autoroute, turn north towards Soissons, 200 metres up on the left at a new roundabout - 1 mile straight with pits, timing building, grandstand etc. all along that road.

Thanks for the info guys. Just looked into popping down there on Sunday for a long-ish drive, but the channel tunnel fares are barmy. It's a bank holiday in most of Europe tomorrow and I think they've pumped the prices up this weekend. Might go down in a couple of weeks instead.

I'll post a couple of pics...

Drive over on the overnight train, 1.00am or so, be in the hotel at 5.00am, sleep til 12 and then have the afternoon and evening roaming around Champagne Town. What a great day out, come back on the 10.35pm, 24 hour ticket £95.

Is that not a good idea?
