A couple of years ago, we had a LOT of fun bashing Ricers and they were everywhere! In N. CA (And my trips to S. CA), it seems rare to see any of them! Is the fad dead? Did they all move to Huskers hood? Are the company's that made three-feet high spoilers all go out of business?

IN PARALLEL: What will the next car fad be?

Police profiling made them a little more elusive.

+1. Just wait for the next Fast and Furious movie, and you'll see them all over again.

I used to see quite a few when I lived in Tampa. Around here I keep seeing the cars all painted up with some food theme, i.e., the Cheetos car, Dr. Pepper, McDonald's, etc. Oh, and the Oreo car is for sale if anyone is feeling left out of this lovely new fad.

I think that industry's tide is heading out right now, with the tightening of credit and conspicuous spending on car modification... I think there was a lot of credit card and home equity use that was being spent on things like that (or, they were buying that and then relying on the credit for everything else).

Pete, Pete, Pete... if you watched the news once in a while, you'd know there's a worldwide shortage of ricers.

    Their Team Leader has set the precedence;

NOPI Motorsports Cancels Summer and Fall events for 2008

It is with great regret that NOPI Motorsports, LLC has suspended operations for the summer and fall 2008. This will include NOPI Drag Racing Series, NOPI Drift Series and the NOPI NATIONALS Motorsports Supershow. The company is undergoing an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season. The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events. Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live. The countrywide economic and industry downturn has caused a slowdown and tightening of belts. This affects everyone and companies, at all levels, and NOPI Motorsports is no different.

We understand the position this puts everyone in and we hope you can find in your heart to work with us through this terrible time. All of you are our friends and we have felt for many years that we were all a big family.

NOPI Motorsports hates this more than anyone as the many years of hard work, tradition and an industry we helped to shape would come to this.

Please watch nopi.com for future announcements.

But the DUB (magazine that covers the culture that worships rims) shows are still going on, there was a show in charlotte several weeks ago. Not a lot of ricers or winged-out autos, but there were a sh*tload of older american cars lifted to ride on 22" + rims. I made the mistake of wasting $20 to get in... D'OH!!!

There are still plenty around here. I just got back from vacation in upstate NY and I actually noticed the lack of distasteful cars driving around, it was refreshing for a change.

Ya gotta admit NOPI put on a fine bikini contest. Few go to these shows for anything else, DUBs included. ;)

There's definitely a good number of them still in Atlanta.
What I really hate is the misconception they have created. Example. I drive a Subaru STi with a few suspension mods, but the car is mostly stock. I autocross regularly and attend a fair amount of HPDE events (sometimes with the FCA). I am by no means a "ricer." On the way home from work the other day some jerk in an M3 shouted "RICER" out his window, and proceeded to speed off. I don't get it? Just because the car is Japanese and has a rather large spoiler on the back from the factory it automatically makes me a ricer?
    Unbelievable.
Frankly i couldn't care less if these kids drive around with their huge metal wings and stickers, but the misconception they have created is frankly annoying.

The blatant attituuuuude from the 'Fast and Furious' crowd has spawned a backlash - surprise, surprise. Ricers only respect other Ricers, so neither I nor any of the other car-guys I run with respect them. They're laughed-at when they show at Exotic meets, Hot-Rod shows, Muscle-car cruises, etc. Nobody wants them or their attituuuuude around. Good riddance.
