Ultimately all these controversial decisions get blamed on Ferrari without the slightest shred of evidence.

As if all the other teams weren't even curious about this device and would let Lotus have their way with it alone. Ridiculous!

 

It could easily go either way. Ferrari could be bluffing about developing their own ride height tech and go political or they genuinely could have been working on their own and fell victim to the influence of others or not able to get theirs to work and go political. Who knows.

 

Agreed totally. I am a Scuderia fan. I am just sharing what I read. It's all speculation and rumor really and people love Ferrari to be the villain.

 

It bothers me that in F1 Ferrari is the NY Yankees. Unfairly perceived as rich an dominant even when not.

Unfairly perceived? Who doesn't know about Ferrari's special benefits in the Concorde agreement, Ferrari specifically makes more money than any of the other teams, independent of actual results. Ferrari are rich and dominant by pre-arranged contract! No surprise, and that "perception" isn't unfair, it's reality.

 

Come on, set aside the bias for a minute. Ferrari was the ONLY other team that applied to the FIA for an interpretation/ruling on their proposed similar system - therefore, it can only be Ferrari's submission which caused the FIA re-consider their approval. Chances are that Ferrari specifically wrote their submission to bring into question the legality of the system, in order to get the Renault (Lotus) system banned. I'd suggest that rather than being upset at the ban on these systems, Ferrari was trying to get them banned.

If you really follow F1, then you know that this is the process that other teams use to get new innovations banned - they have to apply to the FIA for their own version of the innovation to be reviewed and approved, and they word them to get the FIA to reconsider.

Again, it is said that ONLY Ferrari had applied for FIA review of their similar system. You can't blame McLaren, Williams, or Red Bull for the FIA change of approval.

These days Ferrari is indeed rich ( but aren't the only team with more money than they're allowed to spend ) but that wasn't always the case. As far being domminent, not since Mike left.
They are willing to leverage their huge popularity into whatever influence they can get with the FIA but it really hasn't yielded a practical advantage lately. Certainly not the kind measured by championships.

I´ve read that Ferrari also received approval for their system too, so I doubt that they were interested in banning it. Mercedes also was working on it and I suppose that they also asked for approval.

Anyway, it´s a PITA for Lotus-Renault, but I really doubt that this device was really to make a difference for them.

I suspect the system was a small addition to the overall concept of the cars and that banning it will have little effect on the cars overall performance.

It's most likely that the press have completely over-estimated the actual benefits of the system by thinking it was something as revolutionary as the double diffuser, the F-duct and the blown diffuser.

 

Sometimes it's legal and sometimes it isn't. 1981 'springs' to mind. A shame for teams who innovated the past.

 

Every year F1 loses a bit more of what once made it special.
It seems that they're afraid that innovation might lead to advantage and ruin the show.

I just think it's hard to win 3 years in a row. Too much crap can happen, but this being banned didn't hurt Vettel's chances...

 

That would be another explanation for the silence of RB and MCL.

 

Wonder why it's acceptable red bull can pull over half way round for a burger and still win every race, yet it's ot acceptable for anyone to be allowed to challenge their dominance?
