I'm considering my first F355 and have a question regarding the PPI that was just completed. According to the mechanic, the black triangular base of the passenger door rear view mirror is corroding underneath the coating giving it a bubbling appearance. Has anyone experienced this before and is this easily fixed e.g. is this base painted or anodized and can it be easily removed and re-worked? The car is a '95 with 25k miles.

    I have the same problem.

Purchased 2 1/2 years ago, and has never gotten worse. I don't even notice it anymore..

(95 with around 23k now, purchased with 16k)

Have a 348GTB with the same problem, also some marking on the rear of the door black window runner section on both sides.

Has not changed in 3 years may get it done one day but would rather drive the car not a big deal..... :)

Thanks all, sounds like it's a fairly straigntforward remove, repaint, replace project.

There is usually several coats of paint to remove as well as an etching green primer that is a b@#$% to get off sometimes. Finding a black to match will be your trick. Flats are too flat and Satin is too shiny.....

I'm confused as to whether you are talking about the inside or outside of the car. The interior triangles are easy to remove and repaint, either diy or have Robbie re-paint (Sticky no more). The exterior triangles may be more involved. I had to remove and recoat the rear triangles as my car had some bubbling as you describe it. Still not a big deal, had them powdercoated with glossy and good as new, but a bigger deal than the interior stuff for removal and reinstall, but had to be very careful not to ruin the rubber window guide, else the repair would have gotten bigger instantly. Either way, wouldn't let something like this stop you from buying an otherwise good car.
