Two rims bent from road construction in Marin County California with CSAA (or AAA) insuance.

Ins states that they will not go after Cal Trans or City for reimbursement. They also say this is a solo accident and "we" are expected to drive around any lips/ holes etc - even when lip/ hole covers hole lane - and yes - no photo and road repair is done.

Also told by phone rep that claims under $750 do not effect/ increase renewal rates. Trying to confirm later in this day.

Anyone with experience in this to add info/ help with repair or claim decision?

    Some questions:

1 - Has anyone found $750 clause true? Repairing is possibile at $175 per wheel.
2 - Rims are $1000 a piece I understand. What type of percent increase could I expect?
3 - Without photos what is the possibility to have constructor reimburse? WTF on Ins not going after them?
4 - Like Kind - I thought rims were suspension and with suspension it was against the law to use used or straightened.
5 - With CSAA could I straighten and decide to present invoice for reimbursement later to CSAA (hence speeding up the repair time - I assume waiting for adjuster et al would add 2 to 3 days repair delay)? I have a low deductible.

Thanks and happy holiday to all forum members!

If it's a county maintained road, try filing a claim with the county.

Similar incident happened to me in San Francisco. Along with the claim form I included multiple pictures of the location + 2 estimates for repair. The City paid 90% of the claim with virtually zero discussion. In 3 weeks I had a check in my hand.

I work as a manager/line lead for a large insurance company on the auto side.

1 - not industry standard meaning based on your individual insurance company.
2 - not industry standard meaning based on your individual insurance company.
3 - most municipality's have laws/rules on what can and can not be pursued, also based on your individual insurance company.
4 - based 100% on local laws and your individual insurance company. Rim's however do not fall w/in a safety component however almost every part on a car based on local laws can be replaced with aftermarket parts except air bags in most instances, and I've not heard of any local laws not allowing insurance companies/warranties ect... to use new, aftermarket, used, or reconditioned wheels/rims.
5 - I would ask your insurance company about this before hand. Most insurance companies will need proof (there adjusters pictures) that what happened happened. This is based upon the large amount of fraud in the world. I would call your insurance company and keep them in the loop prior to doing anything as anything you may do as per your policy may cause them to deny your claim.
