Guys, I'm thinking of iForged TE16 rims for the F430. My key requirements are that whatever aftermarket rims I go for they must resemble my stock 430 rim design, or if possible the CS rim design, without bolts of course. I don't want to alter the original look too drastically but some staggered lippage would be nice. I've been told to go for 19s in the front and 20s in the rear. What good does that do other than visual aesthetics? A mate of mine runs 20s all round on his 430 with 255 in the front and 315 in the rear. It's really wide but you can't see it even when you're driving behind his car coz even the stock 430 is low. So any suggestions for rim size or design/brand?
I have Novitec NF3 20" all around. The only advantage I can think of for doing 19" in the front is to get a little more sidewall to avoid wheel damage if the roads where you live are pothole ridden. However, some people like the look of +1 size wheel in the rear.
Ok, so no handling loss or gain by having larger rims on the rear? You're right. Novitecs look very similar to the stock rims.
Driftracer3 recommended ADV wheels. ADV05 looks fantastic, just look at the fitment on a Reventon....drool http://www.adv1wheels.com/adv1wheels/3piececollection/3pce-ADV05.php
going with bigger wheels will upset not only the suspension but also the transmission. different offsets will affect the spring rate, larger diameter and width will affect the transmission by making the clutch slip more if the wheels are heavier, also have seen when guys put 20" up front 22" in rear the abs will come on when braking hard and you will not be able to stop as fast. If i were you i would go with a wheel that is < or = to stock wheel weight and same rolling diameter. Be careful going to big in the front if your car is lowered due to you will damage the fenders when turning and going over a bump.
Thanks Zstyle. The stocks are 19s. I'm thinking 19s in front and 20s in the rear. I'm leaning towards forged wheels so weight will definitely be lower than the stock, though I've not weighed the stocks ones before. Does anyone know whats the weight of the stock 430 wheels (non-challenge)? A mate of mine recommended new HREs from the SEMA show. P40s and 590RS. Understand that they shaved more materials off the spokes and using some fancy lightweight material to make the new HREs even lighter. Can't believe it, but yes, they are even lighter than the lightest ones before. Pics here.... 590RS http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1122/5140011794_a02cf5c8bf_z.jpg 593RS http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/5139407617_e51fa4908e_z.jpg 595RS http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/5139408035_f9bdf76fee_z.jpg P40S http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/5139374497_391b2d229e_z.jpg P43S http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4084/5139979074_3622447e0f_z.jpg P45S http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1429/5139374253_61917e3d36_z.jpg So does going super lightweight cause any damage to the running gear of the 430? I suppose it'd help, rather than stress it am I right? Only risk is destroying the entire wheel when you hit a pothole at highspeeds.
Looks like stock... only better Novitec 255/30-19 front 345/25-20 rear same over-all diameter as stock my car is lowered and no issues or rubbing Image Unavailable, Please Login
If anyone is interested I have my NF3 Novitec wheels and tyres for sale here:- http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=5522
Whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about. It will throw of the balance of the car, and in my opinion turn it into crap.
Go for the iForged! They make Great wheels and I have personally owned a few sets of their wheels and have Never been disappointed. Do make sure of the rolling radius though as it is very important for ride and abs safety.
"Sizes are 8.5 x 20 and 12 x 20 with 235/30/20 and 325/25/20." OMFG!!!! Those are MAD MAD widths!!!!!
You can actually get 355 in the rear if you can find the tire. Novitec makes a 12.5" wide rear. I did a set a few years back when the F430 first came out -- INSANE!
Have a set of Novitec NF2 due to arrive in a week. With P Zeros 255/30 R19 (front) and 345/25 R20 (rear)will post pics when I get them mounted. Those NF 1 on the red 430 look incredible.
Waitaminute, didn't see that the rears you ordered in R20....hows that going to do for handling? Any issues?
JoesFun, I stopped by the dealership on Monday while I was in the area for a business trip, and saw your car outside and in the service area, and was able to talk about it with Jeff the service tech. In a sea of F-cars that were there, this one immediately caught my eye as in my opinion, it is PERFECTLY set up with the wheels and lowered suspension. Jeff also said it rode great with the wheels/springs. From an aesthetics standpoint, I would highly recommend this set-up as it looks even better in person... And a manual to boot! - Beautiful car!!
scudnik - THANKS... you have great taste!! Jeff's a good guy and LFSC is a fine dealership... had the car in for it's annual fluid changes. The car has been basically flawless... and I LOVE the gated manual...
JoesFun: Great dealership indeed... I spoke with Dave in sales, and enjoyed my time looking around while I was there. I'm just about in the market to get my first true exotic (I have a few Porsches) and your car is pretty much exactly what I am looking for. I've driven many F1/egears in 430's, 599's, Gallardo's and Murci's, and while they're fast shifting, they just don't have the driver engagement that I'm looking for... Therefore, mine will certainly be a manual! Good luck with it, it's gorgeous!
See, this is where I'm torn. Some say 19s in the front, and 20s in the rear will basically crap the handling. Now this. I know Lambos follow this setup. So who's right, and who's wrong? I believe it'd work as I've set in an SV with 20s in front and 21s in the rear and it was fine. Now here we have is another beautiful example of an F430 with drool-worthy Novitec rims in similar configuration and verdict seems to be positive. I've checked with ADV1, not cheap.
First of all try doing it on a Gallardo and it will do the same thing it will do to a Ferrari. Look do what you want but if you are doing it for looks, then go ahead, lets face it most people who own these cars do not drive them hard enough to notice. After of 35 years of building and modding cars and owning over 250 myself, I may not be an expert, but I know a hell of a lot more than most of these aftermarket sellers. Common sense should tell you if you change the wheel size it will effect the car, even changing tires effects the car, EVERYTHING you do that involves the suspension effects the car. When I turned my Gallardo into RWD in took hours to rebalance the car just right. Look at it this way I never ever leave my cars stock, my 997 spent 11 months in pieces and almost every part was changed in some way or another, and I have spent 100's of thousands on changing cars over the years, and I am telling you it is not a good idea. Do not take this the wrong way, but in my opinion you will ruin both the looks and the handling, that setup is an insult to the car.
+1 I too have modified a lot of cars (not nearly as many as above...!) and I quite agree, it's a bad idea unless you have the resources these manufacturers do. If Ferrari could have made the 430 better by changing the wheel sizes, they would have done so. They spent a long time setting the car up with the stock rims and unless you have access to a track and a lot of diagnostic wizardry I can't imagine you'll be able to match it after altering the dimensions. Just my input anyway, I love my stock 430 rims, I say leave them well alone and save yourself some pennies!!
