I believe I was there that day that you're referring to (I'm sure there were many other days as well) and I remember the grand entrance. Las was driving the Maybach if I recall and everyone in tow had a grin from ear to ear. I never did meet him personally but it's apparent that he enjoyed sharing the good times with friends. It's sad that his family and friends had to lose him so young. Condolences to family and those who were close to him.

I happened to run into John while eating at the Ivy on Robertson. I recognized his Cobra parked out front and then I recognized John as I was seated at the table next to him. Started some small talk and for the few minutes I spent talking with him it was easy to see that he was a fun-loving spirit. He told me the Ivy was his "staple food" and he "would starve without it."

John was able to recognize that material objects have no real value in the grand scheme of things. Cars, homes, and money can all be earned, purchased, and treasured; but the time we often take for granted in pursuit of these things will never come back.

John enjoyed life to the fullest and did his best to share his good fortune with those around him.

Thank you John for all that you gave to both your friends and family. The lessons and inspiration that you have instilled in many of us will live on forever. Your generosity and kindness were much appreciated and will be missed.

John had been on perscription meds for a long time always changing them John did not OD from cocaine or heroin. John did not commit suicide this was a accident buy perscription meds and mixing the wrong meds with one another. dont get me wrong John loved to party but he also loved crissy and his kids he was not selfish in any manner and this was a total accident.

The service is Thursady in Palm Springs and he will be creamated and layed to rest in Palos Verdes right next to his mother.

There is an article in todays WSJ about the dangers of prescription pain medication and how easy it is to overdose on them and destroy your liver which leads to death. If you are taking these medications be very careful. If you develop flu like symptoms this may be liver damage and must be dealt with immediately.

 

Extreamly well said Jim and 100% correct these past years too many people have died from perscription meds specialy Pain meds. You remmeber Ron from the ec right Jim? He had a silver Porsche TT like 650Hp huge wing on the back?

Eric LV you used to talk to him all the time because of his cronic back pain because you have the same problem if I am not mistaken you have even went to germany to have the surgery done right ?

Anyway I am sure you know this but in case you dont Ron died last year of a OD on Pain meds due to his back pain. Ron was a super nice guy and was in a lot of pain I guess because the meds are perscribed to you you think they cant kill you but so many people have lost there lives to Pain meds its just a real shame. My guess is that you take them for so long you become used to it and double up to relieve the pain because they are not working anymore then eventually you they dont work and you get something stronger perhaps mixing the two meds and before you know it . PEACE... same will go for Doctor perscribed meds for anxiety and mental health issues

It's not even just the prescription painkillers which are damaging to the liver. Amazingly, for the past decade Tylenol (Acetaminophen) has been the leading cause of acute liver failure.

It's horrible. Yet they keep pushing all of these drugs in commercials 100 times an hour, and they keep making up all sort of ailments to make you believe there's something seriously wrong with you. When only 1%-2% of the people actually prescribed them should be on them. Especially with kids.

This type of OD happens far too often. I haven't had anyone OD in my family, but seeing them on 5 types of meds, one for this, one to offset the side effect of this, another to offset this one, etc. It's seriously disturbing and yet it seems the prescription drug companies have a strangle hold on everything.

 

People oft. complain about how the pharmaceutical companies are advertising on TV. What is the case is that they used to advertise/ market directly to physicians. This could possibly lead to a doctor prescribing a drug that may not be the right option for the said person. If an individual inquires about a drug they saw on TV, they can receive a sound opinion on the drug, or other drugs which may in fact be better suited.

I do think there is too much of it on TV; but eliminating it, and going back to the old way is not the right answer. Educating (even just a tiny bit) the individual leads to better care that can be provided.

 

Prescription drug abuse is a terrible thing. Like I said in an earlier post, I lost a very close friend to the same issue almost two years ago to the day. It infuriates me and I caution people all the time when asked about taking medications that seem so commonplace today.

But, I would appreciate if someone who knew John to post up a bit about his life and accomplishments to balance out the discussion of medications.

I'm all for discussing the prescription drug issue in another thread. It seems John was very well liked and this is an opportunity to share his story with those of us who never got a chance to know him.

I think we may be talking about two slightly different things here with regard to prescription pain meds. There's abuse of pain medications, such as morphine, that lead to the sort of addictive and destructive habits one typically associates with an addict. There's also the improper usage of pain medications that results in an accidental overdose of acetaminaphen, leading to liver damage/failure and death. Unfortunately, many people will take a tylenol (acetaminophen) with their pain medication, i.e. percocet or vicodin, not understanding that both drugs contain acetaminophen (percocet: oxycodone + acetaminaphen, typically 325mg; vicodin: hydrocodone + acetaminophen). This happens so frequently that many doctors will now prescribe oxycodone or hydrocodone alone to try and avoid the possibility of an overdose of acetaminophen.

I'm sorry to hear about John. I envy his success and the generous manner in which he appears to have lived his life.

Last Friday night, I got a phone call from a friend who told me the sad news. I'm still in shock.

Had the opportunity to hang around with John on multiple occasions & safe to say that the community has lost one of its most unselfish enthusiast and friend. He truly enjoyed life to the fullest. RIP John.
