My favorite Italian cookbook author, and all around defender of proper Italian cooking, passed today. Her books (and parochial attitude) towards cooking will carry on. RIP Marcella. If don't have her 'Classic Italian Cook Book' in your library you're missing out.

Her two classics, "Classic Italian Cooking" and "More Classic Italian Cooking", are must haves for anyone interested in exploring past the Italian-American tradition of bread crumbs, red sauce and cheese on everything.

I'm not sure who'll take over as Keeper of the Faith but there's no way we'll see anything like MH's combination of passion, intensity and good will anytime soon -- IRREPLACEABLE.

(Yes, stirring risotto from beginning to end makes a difference. Who knows how many people lost and eye or, worse, their self-esteem saying otherwise in her presence?)
