An absolute legend ... Vale Ken Warby, the fastest man on water for over 40 years (whichcar.com.au) I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Warby at "Firewater 2000", put on by Sam Baker in Antioch, Illinois. I honestly didn't know who he was, but I figured it out pretty fast. I saw him again a few years later at the LOTO shootout. He was casually sitting at Shooters 21 Bar as all these guys who thought they were fast walked by him, not knowing he was sitting there. RIP Mr. Warby - your historic world water speed record is flat out incredible. I hope the water stays flat for you and the "Spirit of Australia". MDS
He built the boat from wood and then kept Modding it to improve it and the likelihood of survival He got to the record by incremtaly increasing speed and nosing along The way. the wing on the back of the boat came from a. Cessna Brilliant guy
Another cool story I heard was he was having trouble getting to his wanted top speed - he had an engineer friend who did some calculations and told him he had to cut 4 inches off the rudder. Sure enough, that did it. I also read there are rumors he had gone over 400 mph - can't remember where I read that though - either www.offshoreonly.com or www.screamandfly.com. MDS
that story is true. Corropsneded years ago late 90s when he was building t dragsters. A freind was making micro turbines and I wanted to build a rc model of the record boat..
