Killed in a car accident in Kent this morning.
I saw this. What a dramatic end to a dramatic life. http://www.planet-f1.com/driver/3213/9293520/Nigel-Stepney-killed-in-road-accident
...For reasons yet to be established, the man appears to have entered the carriageway and was then in collision with an articulated goods vehicle... Just glad it wasnt a Ferrari.
Isn't it weird how many F1 drivers and mechanics have been killed in auto accidents? Or does it just seem that way?
I life was lost today. It doesn't make the incident any better because it didn't involve a Ferrari. RIP Nigel
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Formula 1 looses yet another great ambassador. RIP Nigel, and thank you for your contribution to our love of cars.
doubt it, he had a good job with JRM racing (based in a tiny town I used to live in in the UK) developing the Nismo GT3 cars (JRM build/developed them and then shipped them to customers, even NISMO in Japan). I think it was just an unfortunate incident.
Although that doesn't explain anything that might be going on...I doubt it would be because of what happened in 2007.
I need a translation from British to American English please: A silver VW caddy van, driven by a 56 year-old man from the Essex area, had stopped on the hard shoulder of the M20 Londonbound carriageway at Ashford. "For reasons yet to be established, the man appears to have entered the carriageway and was then in collision with an articulated goods vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene." What is a carriageway? What is an articulated goods vehicle? Did Stepney walk onto a highway into oncoming traffic?
Had his van broken down and he'd been clipped by the truck as he got out of the van then I might agree with you. However, according to the reports, he'd parked his van on the hard shoulder of the motorway and then for an unknown reason walked out into the path of an oncoming truck! There's no mention of any fault with the van or any reason for him to have walked out onto a live carriageway. Just because someone's got a good/great job doesn't mean that they won't commit suicide. Plenty of people who seem to have everything anybody could want in life, who seem to be the happiest person on the planet, have ended up committing suicide due to suffering from depression. There are no guarantee's when it comes to depression! Don't get the wrong idea! - I'm not saying that he definitely committed suicide, but there are a lot of unanswered questions about what happened that cannot easily be explained. On the face of it though, the probability that he took his own life seems pretty high! I'm no Nigel Stepney fan after what he did to Ferrari, but I wouldn't have wished this on him, however it happened. His family and friends have all of My sympathies! R.I.P Nigel!
A carriageway is a set of lanes that make up the road (In this case a motorway [highway]). An articulated goods vehicle is our version of a semi-truck. Essentially, yes, it appears that for some reason he walked out into the path of a truck that would have been travelling at 56mph (trucks are speed limited to 56mph max), on a motorway, but there's no reason for him to have been there. Hope that helps.
+1 to all your points Does not look like a regular traffic accident. Living with Stepneygate was probably weighing on him.
