Norm Winningstad died yesterday: http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2010/11/post_49.html In addition to the rest of his remarkable life, he was quite the Ferrari enthusiast. He owned a silver 365GT 2+2 from new for many, many years (I remember seeing him with it at PIR in the early 80s), at least one and maybe two Boxers, a 400i automatic (which he was quite proud of-- I remember him showing it at the Forest Grove Concours when it was quite new). I believe he gave up the Ferraris in the late 1980s when he had some financial difficulties, and I don't know if he ever got another one. Anyone else have any good Norm stories?
Norm was quite active in the NWRFCA in the early 80s. I remember when he arrived at the Cottage Grove Concours in his helicopter. It was the hit of the show! My fondest memory is a ride he gave me around Laguna Seca in his Mondial. After he left the club and Ferraris his 400is were in the culb with other owners for some time. He will be missed.
He had an Agusta 109 helicopter-- the Ferrari of the helicopter world, IMO. He loved his helicopters, for sure.
