We here in So Cal lost a great friend in the auto scene today. I just received a call that Robert Hines passed away this weekend. I just talked to him on Saturday about this years 11-99, and was gonna see him at Supercar Sunday. However he did not make it to the show. :(

He did enjoy every second of his 90+ years here. He specially enjoyed flying back in the day and driving his sports cars daily. He just recently purchased a new SLS, but that enjoyment was cut short due to his passing.

Bob I loved hearing your stories every time you picked me up and we were off to a show. Will surely miss you, you were a good friend. I hope there are cars up there for you to drive, with the best roads possible. RIP Sir it was an honor knowing you

He was an amazing man! I wish I had the chance to get to know him better. I do not know anyone who was more passionate than he. Bob, you will be missed! Godspeed.

:( Thank you for posting this and sincerest condolences in case his family and friends are reading. I had just been thinking about him as I specifically wanted to pay a visit this Saturday since I've been out of town for a long time! Always enjoyed my conversations with him and his enthusiasm for life. I'm saddened by the news but fortunate to have known him over the years. Always a kid at heart who loved to share his time and passions. A true gentleman.

Rest in peace Bob, it truly was an honor!

We all know him as "Bob" and he was a great Air Force Pilot. We used to talk for hours about his time in Germany. He had a great firm handshake and was very passionate about cars, mostly the Mercedes mark.

He had a lot of import / registration issues with the 2 DTM CLK's (Coupe and Cabrio) that he had imported from Germany and had a chance to drive them on the track with an F1 driver.

When I asked him about the SLR, he said it wasn't his cup of tea. Being an owner of the original Gulwing, he was very excited about the new Gulwing and had one one order. It took a lot longer than promised and he finally took delivery last month. I am glad he had a chance to see his new Gulwing before his final rest.

May God bless his soul and may he rest in peace. He will be missed by a lot of friends.

Very sad to hear. I happened to see & talk to him twice last week, & he seemed to be in his usual good spirits, so that's the memory I will always have.

It's a real shame to lose such a gentlemen and car enthusiast. I've spoken to him many times at the La Canada Saturday morning get together and I always found him warm and friendly, more than willing to discuss his life and his cars. RIP Bob.

Very sad to hear this news. He was a true American hero, and a great fellow car enthusiast. He will be missed by many. I saw him at Porsche SCS, and gave him a wink as I was talking to some other people. I will always remember his last smile. RIP Bob.

I'm sorry to hear this. I never spoke with Bob, but I so enjoyed seeing his DTM coupe and cab, and Gullwing as well at SCS.

Very sad to find out about this! I met Bob last year at the Premier Protective Films opening party when he showed up in his DTM Cabrio. We spent a lot of time talking, and he enjoyed sharing about his life and about his car collection. He even showed me his order form for the SLS, which was at the time still being finalized for production. I'm glad he got to enjoy the new car at least for a little while. R.I.P. Bob!

He had a great collection of cars and seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. He always seemed full of energy the few times I saw him arrive at car shows in one of his cars.

    He will be missed.

Bob was one of the best. Always enjoyed his bright spirit and willingness to take the time to be friendly to everyone around him. Saw him at Cars and Coffee a few times with his DTM`s. And other Benz events. He will be missed. Rest in peace Bob.

I cannot believe I missed this! I would often have long conversations with Bob at Cars and Coffee in La Canada, one of the most down to earth men I have ever met. RIP Bob!
