I've been offered a Riva Ariston. I'm familiar with them by reputation only. Does anyone here know them first hand? What are they worth? This one is in Italy and I'm wondering if its worth importing.

    Thanks

    Here's a link: http://www.mbbw.com/
They usually have a couple for sale.

The Riva Historical Society is also a great reference.

These guys were very helpful when I was looking for info for my Baglietto (another classic Italian boat builder) Ischia restoration.

murph baglietto do you own? i am a big fan of the baglietto but the sizes i have seen are much too large for me and i have not the means nor interest in staffing a crew...i want an owner operator.

    Hi Pete,
Not to hijack the thread, but she's a 1966 Baglietto Ischia #89 of 93 produced.
14 of these boats were imported into Newport, ca by John Von Neumann and partners in the late 60's.
"Arrivederci" is 53 foot, twin screw, fast planing, wood hull boat.
The Italian craftsmanship on this girl is amazing.
I like the size. I can take her out single handed without any problems.

......and I remember hearing stories from your wife a few years ago about how many hours she spent scraping & painting the bilges when you first got the boat!!

    Best girl/wife in the World!!!
She can take apart and put back together any part of that boat with her eyes closed.
She had blue bilge paint in her hair for months.

murph, curious on your opinion on the avalon 50'. it is designed by mark richards and i did a sea trial a few months back. the exchange rates are hurting the price to me but ...i would appreciate your thoughts.

sorry for not having included the link but you can find it at "avalon yachts 50"

    Thanks everyone for your feedback.
A special thanks to Tritone for providing me with information about how Rivas are constructed. I've decided to pass on the boat as I'm already deep into simultaneous boat and car restos already.
If anyone wants contact info re the Riva, e-mail me.
