Anyone that knows a source for the special rivets that holds the firewall sandwich construction together? Best regards Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Special rivets - Aren't those standard rivets using backing washers or are you seeing something I'm not picking up on?
Peter, These are the locations where the veltex type carpet snaps are attached for the trunk carpet, the snap half on the trunk firewall were attached with a screw. So it's either the remains of one half of a snap or a rivet with a through hole to accomodate the snap/screw. Not sure if someone added them since it looks blind on one side - I didn't have them on my car, maybe one of the other guys can clarify? Earlier L- series might have a different snap attachment and yours are broken on the trunk side? Regards Andrew
Thanks all. I had also considered blinding posts (Threaded blind rivets) as omgjon suggested. They are not 100% identical with the old tube style rivets but close enough. Anyone have any suggestion for what type of insulation material to use between the two layers of glass fiber? Originally glass wool was used. Regards Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Binding posts. Threaded blind rivets. So that's what they're called. The Lotus Elan uses those for its rear bulkhead. Thanks,, and regards, Andres
I am not sure your are right when it comes to the L series anyway. Have a look on this pre-disassembly picture. You can see the backside of the "blind" rivet turning towards the trunk (Blue circle) Regards Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login
I use ceramic insulation from McMaster Carr McMaster-Carr Binding posts and ceramic insulation are just suggestions and what I use. Right or wrong it's merely a suggestion for easily attainable alternatives to original.
Peter, You're right, the snaps for the carpet are not in that location, see photo below which looks the same as yours and you can see the rivet you want at the lower left... sorry should have dragged out a photo first. Regards, Andrew Image Unavailable, Please Login
