RM will be offering some of Laidlaw's race cars in London. This is the text they use for #2432: "Among the other fine sports racing cars in this collection are the 1958 Maserati 250S, chassis no. 2432, an ex-Carroll Shelby and Jim Hall car and the only 250S originally built with a 2.5-litre engine. This particular car is widely regarded as the best example in existence" Apart from #2431 being the other 250S originally built by Maserati with a 2.5 litre engine AFAIK #2432 does not have any racing history at all. According to Willem and his latest book it was used as a spare car for Hap Sharp's 200S in Sebring and was for years in Shelby workshop jacked up without brakes. IMHO neither Shelby nor Hall ever raced #2432. Any comments, corrections, additions? Regards Wolfi
Honesty doesn't often get in the way of a good sales pitch. I'm sure Walter will know something about this.
The brakes of #2432 ended up in Hinckle's 200S #2426, the engine was installed in a Cooper Monaco. Car only did two minor races (Independence and Midlands), both with Hap Sharp at the helm and with a FERRARI MONZA ENGINE. SHELBY and HALL NEVER DROVE IT. I wonder which engine allegedly is in the car now. Regards Wolfi Dr. Wolf Zweifler Possartstr. 6 81679 München Tel.: +49-89-473307 Fax: +49-89-479042 Mobile: +49-171-6219059 E-Mail: [email protected]
