First time through, I didn't pick up that Harrison owned the DB...thanks for pointing that out. According to the description, he was the first owner. It will be interesting to see if that fact brings a celebrity premium.

Glad I don't drink anymore...I could wake up with it or the 330 America headed for a new home in Dallas...

I wonder if George's 275GTB is still in his family.

Sorry, but I'm one of those who is bored with red, red, red. Originally, the Nembo was dark blue (non-metallic) with a pumpkin-colored interior, and IMHO was a frigging knock-out. Every time I see a pic of it, I wonder why someone had to change the color. But that having been said, everyone has the right to do whatever the bleep he or she wants to do with his or her car, so why am I whining? If I ever get my scanner figured out, I'll post some pix in its original colors and see if anyone agrees. Don't hold your breath!

This is one of my real favorite color combinations also, especially on the 330GTC. We had a Jensen Interceptor convertable in this combination for about a decade, a real pretty luxurious POS.

    I concur!

Now, some of the non-Italians are also looking absolutely gorgeous in colors other than red, particularly the black 507 and the azure blue GT40 Mk.I.

Although the prices those two are commanding are altogether a different matter, as I'm yet to find them "gorgeous".

Ed Niles: I agree with you, would love to see the Nembo in diferent colors, though perhaps dark blue is too dark to reveal the subtleties of its lines. I Love pumpkin interior though!

Am flying to London tomorrow morning, can't wait to se it again: it's like meeting Sharon Stone or Charlize Theron on Borranis:)!!!

I have lots of good slides of it but unfortunaltely they are in a warehouse in Florida and not accessible; here is the only photo I have of the day I shot and drove it in 1998.

I am watching these auctions live now.... NEAT!

This is awesome to watch, the 1928 Renault racecar, high estimate 250K, is now at 400K..... sold for over $800,000 ! Clearly a pissing contest going on there.

Ouch.... '76 365GT4 BB apparently not a single bid. Auction opened, no bids at all, closed and moved on. ????

The Plexi nosed Daytona coupe sold for $258,387. 85K miles, original interior... description makes it sound pretty much like a decent condition driver.

It appears that lot 264; the Nembo, ended at a bid of $1,240,260... plus 13% for Rob Myers & Co., equals $1.4m and change. (1,401,493.80 for the bean counters)

Stunning and worth every penny IMO. The first and best of the Nembos, whether yesterday's blue or today's red.

Please do post the pictures of the original blue if you get the scanner working again... thanks.

The 13% buyers premium is pure BS.
These idiot auction houses not only charge the buyer a premium, they also charge the seller a piece of the hammer price. At regular RM auctions like Monterey and Scottsdale the premiums on each side are 10%. This means that the difference between what the buyer pays and the seller receives is a whopping 20%! Raising the premium to 13% just widens an already egregious gap.

Why would I, as a seller of, let's say, a Million dollar (total buyer pay including premium - hammered at $910,000 and a premium of $90,000) car be prepared to accept only $820,000. Ain't gonna happen with me.
I'm pretty sure I could sell the car, privately at $100,000 under what the auction buyer paid and still wind up wind $100,000 better off than I would get from the auctioneer.
It beats me as to how people get suckered in by auction houses to consign their cars on the very flimsy premise that the hype of the auction will result in higher than normal prices. Pure BS as I asserted earlier. Buyers will pay what they believe the car is worth and they definitely factor in the premium on the high value cars. Sellers are raped, pure and simple. I have bought cars at auction, at the price I believed was appropriate. I will never sell a car at auction.

I'm assuming Sellers do this because they believe they can get more for their car at the Auction. A case in point is the Lusso at Monterey this year. That car made the usual rounds privately and didn't even get to $1M. The car shows up in Monterey in you see over $2M. The Seller was thrilled. The flip to this was the very nice 365 GTC and even better 330 GTC at Monterey. Both those cars sold for under retail. Those Sellers got screwed.

There are countless examples at RM, Gooding, Christies, BJ, where the sellers get screwed routinely, especially at BJ where the pace of the auction simply does not allow enough time for the cars to be fully priced. There was a high profile lawsuit at the 2007 Scottsdale BJ where a seller alleged that his car had been fraudulently underpriced. In any event, what is certain is that he received far less for the car than it seemed to be worth.
The McQueen Lusso is an abberation, a car perfect for the hype of a celebrity auction, but outside of the Lusso, everything significant (over $500K) in Monterey fetched pretty close to what private sales had been getting in the same time frame.
Auctions are tailor made for sellers who don't have the patience or the ability to market their cars themselves or through reputable brokers who will earn a small fraction of the auctioneers' take. Auctioneers today seem to have taken on an air entitlement that they are worth much more in the process than is actually the case. BJ has turned into a state fair of sorts with all sorts of hucksters peddling their wares in a carnival style atmosphere, and paying exorbitant rents to BJ for their 100 sq ft of retail space, to the point that there are literally thousands of people in attendance who never even get to the auction arena. Most of the people there are sightseers who are not authorized to bid, but BJ will trumpet loud and hard about the attendance figures as if that is a guarantee of crazed buyers paying much more than they should. Auctions are good only for the auctioneers and the rare informed buyer here and there who has really done his homework on an otherwise warranty-less proposition where the auction stands by nothing that they represent in their glossy catalogs.

On-line auctions represent a grand new way to really put it to the buyers and sellers. You have no idea who is bidding against you, you have no physical proximity to the object being offered and you are at the mercy of the company or person running the auction. It's like hunting blindfolded and with your arms tied behind your back. The hunter is the prey in this case.

...and the results also show that the 250GTE sold for £122,925 (which presumably will include the premium?). Was there anything special or unusual about this particular car or is this simply indicative that the values of GTE's are on the rise ??

The same money for an Iso Grifo GL (nearly double estimate). Is that a record for one? I guess this auction was widely advertised (even an article about it in the news section of the Sunday Times) so it probably brought a lot of buyers out of the woodwork.
