Anyone attending this weekends SVRA Spring Vintage at Road America?
Mike, what a gorgeous day to be at a race track today. I wish I could be there. My whole family is feeling abit under the weather, even my little one. Did you do the touring. I did the touring for this event a couple years back and almost got kick out of the track...LOL. I am contemplating of buying the touring pass on Sat. for the Redman. I know it is gonna be a zoo, but at least the zoo has many horses and bulls...!!! Are you going to tour the Redman? Ken
I just purchased the touring ticket for the Sat. at the Redman race. Anybody else doing touring that day? wanna carravan to R.A. that morning? The touring pass is usually gone if you try to buy it at the door for that day. So if anyone is thinking of touring "BUY-IT-NOW". For those of you who do not know what touring is about at Road America. Basically, you drive your own car at the track for 45min. for as many laps within that time frame, and you could pull into the paddock to exchange driver or passenger but not car! They usually impose a speed limit of 70mph; however, I have had personally gone over 120+ on the straight! NO passing at the turns. It is usually fun when the traffic is light, but do not count on it for Sat. But one year I got passed by a Gulf McClaren F1 during the Touring! So..anyone is doing the touring? Ken
I would like to do the touring but need to find a car first!! I have the 328 now, but won't by then....... Ken, I tried to call you yesterday. Talked to Sean.... Bill
Ken, I'll head up there with you on Saturday. In 03 I had my 493 HP CL55 on the track. I followed a Corvette and we were going 120 a few times. It was fun!
Bill, if you don't have a car by then. You can be my co-pilot for the touring. Mike, that's Awsome, CS or turbo?
Sweeeet..... But I would rather have my own so I can do at least one illegal pass of you on the straightaway before I get black flagged..... ;-)
Why won't you have a car... where's the 328 going... am I missing something? How does this early vintage event compare to the BRIC?
There is a big difference between the BRIC and the earlier one. The is a Concour and Auction after the race at downtown. Even walking around the parking area is like a car show. Beside, there are usually over dozen or 2 F-cars on the track with you during the touring, fun! I am sure Bill will get black flag in no time! Just make sure you don't crash or get hit. I almost got hit once by a M5 one year. Big daddy has 2 teenages in the back seats and trying to prove himself by passing at the kink, good thing I spotted him and back off...! it is usually pretty safe though!
I'm slightly confused... they haven't done an auction at the BRIC for the last two years...there is a show and auction at the early event?? Or did you mean the early event is "much" smaller. I've been to the BRIC the last 5 years so I know what that's like. I just thought if this early event was anything close it might be worth a trip down too.
I have been to both and the BRIC seems to have many more spectators. As far as participants (racers, groups, etc.) goes, I do not know.
The vintage event was LAST weekend. I went. It was nice to whet the appetite but, if the BRIC is a 9 or 10 on the ol' ratings scale, this was a 4. Still cool though....I just LOVE the BRIC. FYI - Even the Ferrari Challenge would only rate a 5 or so for me on the scale. Bill
Yeah, the 328 is pretty moving on to another deserving soul. Well.....it is. And I am a tad nervous about letting it go as it has been a great entry into Ferrari. It has the looks I was looking for but, more importantly, it has been a DREAM to own (i.e. it hasn't let me down mechanically even once). I fear that I will sell it and buy a problematic car. That is definitely a fear. With this one, I know what I have and I know it is nice..... I still have it and will in a few weeks (wink wink), but I might have two cars by then and be driving something else if all goes well.... Got a few things in the works..... ;-) Don't worry, I am not leaving Ferrari ownership....
So you are saying... about the same # of cars/particaipants, but not the same # of fans?? Sounds like a great deal if thats the case. See/hear the same cars but don't have to fight the crowds and pay the premium $ for hotels/tickets/etc?? Sorry I missed it!
So you traded/sold up....???? I'm on the edge of my seat! My wife & I will be in Elkhart form the fri of the challenge to sun of the BRIC...we need to hook up and have beer/Jack/Crown/whatever at some point.
Ken, I'll PM you, Husker Bill and others a few weeks before. Last year my wife and I drove two cars up there. We might do that this year. See ya!
We will get together for SURE!! Looking forward to it. I am working it. Although I must say, with my car running so well, it might not be a "trade up" if I buy a car that is in the shop all the time. I just may regret this one.... But that's the fun of it!!!
The drive there is an event in itself. This past weekend we headed up 83 then cut back to West Bend. Then we got onto 67 and then found a real pretty road that took us around and into Elkhart Lake. As much as I can't stand the Wisconsin winters, our summers and falls are fabulous.
