I'm going out of town (NYC to Miami.) Would it be advisable to drive 575M that distance? I'm worried about reliability.

    Any experiences/tips?

    Thanks

In August I drove my 550 to/from Monterey, returning via Reno. Total trip was about 2K miles. Absolutely NO problems. I checked oil, coolant, etc. daily, which is advised. Proabably replaced a shot glass worth of coolant on the whole trip, and that was on the Monterey-Reno leg, where the road reaches altitude of 8K feet or so.

That's what you bought it for! Enjoy!

My only suggestion is verify that your towhook is greased and it fits into the car, and have your Ferrari Roadside service number.
You never know when you are going to need it.

It's still under warranty, isn't it? Sheesh! Take it out from under its protective glass cover, take the plastic off of the seats and drive it!

In 1908 or 1911, I forget which, the dealer in L.A. took a ‘Fiber Drive’ Metz off the showroom floor, drove to Arizona, drove to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (never been done before) and drove home, all without a single service. To put it in perspective the first U.S. gas station was built in 1911. Even before WW I cars worked pretty well.
In ‘79 I bought a used 250 Ferrari in New York and roared across the country to L.A. I remember doing about 110 mph in Alabama while racing a Corvette, and you know, it never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t make it.
Traffic aside, I think you’ll get to Florida, even if you drive your 575M in reverse on the rev limiter.

    Methinks we're being yanked.

1st post, has a 575, afraid to drive it even though it's under warranty.

    Give me a break.

I don't think so. Why shouldn't he have a 575? Not every Ferrari owner has a long Fchat history. And thinking about reliability is normal, having a breakdown in a Ferrari is a personal nightmare for me...

@PrinceChrisM: my 575 has done 2200 miles so far without any problem. Don't worry, enjoy the ride, check oil from time to time.

    Absolutely not.
Ferraris are known to break down every 100 Miles. Driving the car through New Jersey in itself can be a challenge but in a Ferrari? Never! You should trailer the car and then unwrap the bubble wrap here in Miami, park it on Ocean Drive and don't even bother taking it for a ride here.

Who came up with the idea driving a Ferrari. All the miles you put on it. When the car has 2600 Miles (the trip back and forth, your car is worthless. Just like somone told me a 328 with 30K Miles was a high miles car.

See you in Miami. Check the FL section for activities. We have some great track dates coming, a Rally in late November, early November the FCA Maranello madness and Sebring track in early Dec.

Oh and as far as driving down here, hope you see I was kidding. Drive it and enjoy it!

Guys thanks for all the help!

I could have flown in, but I think it would be more fun to drive down with the Ferrari!

Yes, the car is still under warranty. But that's not the problem. I just don't want to break down on the way.

Mileage does not matter to me at all, I look foward to more road trips in the 575. I also plan on using the car as my daily driver.

    Thanks!

Since the late '70s, Ferrari reliability has gone up to almost daily-driver status. The newest cars can, and should, be driven anywhere at any time. Ferrari drove their entire model fleet through the snows of Siberia for a publicity stunt during the opening of Moscow's dealership - think about that. Siberia. And you're worried about driving Stateside?

Chris, I can't speak for modern Ferraris, but I've been driving classic Jaguars for many years. I've taken 1800 to 2000 mile road trips in 30+ year old XKE's with no problems. With any car, old or new, if you do a little pre-trip preparation and maintenance, you should not have any problems. Obviously, there's always a chance something might break, but basic maintenance minimizes that risk.

On the other hand, better safe than sorry. It never hurts to carry certain hard to find spare parts, if not prohibitively expensive. And I've found that a AAA Plus membership is well worth the money. Manufacturer's roadside assistance aside, AAA Plus provides towing/flatbed service up to 100 miles free for each breakdown. Gives you a lot more options than being towed to a local garage in the middle of nowhere. One ride on a flatbed will more than offset the cost of the membership. (NAYYY, just a happy AAA member.) Also, try to compile a list of dealers and qualified mechanics along your route so you have someone to contact and take the car to should you have a problem.

Now, hit the road and enjoy the trip!!

Not sure why you're concerned about a roadtrip when you plan to use it as a daily driver.
