My wife suggested to me yesterday that she and I road trip it somewhere this spring/summer. Looking at maybe a one week total travel time and wondering what suggestions you all might have for destinations? I've never done this before but am intrigued by the idea of it all, all thoughts greatly appreciated.

We keep talking about doing the bourbon trail in Kentucky. I think that would make a great road trip.

A trip to the West Coast and back. Few greater places to drive IMO in this country than under the big sky and on the highways and byways out West. Open roads, higher legal speed limits & plenty of fun cities to stop off, depending on whether you go northern, central or southern route. And, fun places to get off the interstate for a spell, and enjoy some twisty roads in your car. For example, quick dash from where you are to Chicago and then follow old Route 66 to SoCal (or as far your time permits) for a slow way out and then jet back on the interstates or vice versa…T

If you head down south or do a jaunt southward before heading west, head to Deals Gap/ Tail of the Dragon on US 129 at the NC/TN border. there are several fantastic roads that make for some very memorable experiences. When I go to Road Atlanta I always hit this up going and coming home!

I agree with this. West coast is an amazing experience, but if time doesn't permit, Washington D.C is a great and easy trip. I'm heading there spring break time (early april). Tons of things to do around that area.

+1. Food scene is awesome in DC. Ditto for museums. And, many of the museums are free. If you can arrange to be there when cherry tees are in blossom, spectacular. Also, I love driving the George Washington parkway...T

John...wow that Tail of the Dragon looks awesome! However, with a wife who gets carsick it may not be the wisest idea...perhaps a solo or boys trip is on the horizon.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions! The wife has been bringing up Toronto a lot recently and seems like it could be a fun place. Not sure about the drive itself but the city looks awesome and a day trip to Niagra Falls is easy. Trying to see if we can organize it to go to the IndyCar race in Toronto as well. Anyone done this trip?

Ha, thanks Ron. She unfortunately happened to see that comment over my shoulder so now of course I get that held over my head!
