Hi From Midlantic Region! I was thinking about taking my 99 355 from Delaware to the East end of Long Island to visit a friend but I am concerned about my low clearance and the BQE, LIE potholes. Have the roads gotten better through the years? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks
the BQE still is horrible, but the LIE isn't bad to the point where it will mess your car up. Just get on Montauk Hitghway where it starts and take that the rest of the way....
From Delaware, take the outer-bridge crossing to Staten Island... traverse SI to the Verrazano and then the Belt all the way east. The Belt will turn in to Southern State Parkway and then you've got 2 options: 1) Do what Matt said and take Montauk Highway all the way out... 2) Hit Sunken Meadow Parkway North to the LIE East... I've taken that trip a few times in my 355 and even once in the F430 and never had a problem. It's an easy drive, can be a bit long if traffic works against you, but it's a nice drive.
1) Yes, the BQE blows 2) As mentioned above, simply take the Belt Pkwy East, and there a host of ways to get to Montauk from there. For simplicity, you could take Belt Pkwy (becomes Southern State) to RT-135 N which takes you right to the LIE.
