I am driving East from CA to FL on the I 10 through Texas (ElPaso - Orange) in three or four days. Any good driving road tht parallel I 10, scenic, elevation changes and twisties. Also any similar rods in AZ nd NM. Thank you.
Exit I-10 east of San Antonio at Seguin exit and follow Alternate Highway 90. It is more fun, less traffic, prettier. It will take longer, because of the towns along the way. Eventually you get back to I-10 between Sealey and Houton.
Not much between El Paso and San Antonio unless you do not mind going a little out of your way. You could make a loop off of I-10 to Ft. Davis, Marfa, Alpine, and Marathon. Hwy 385 from Marathon to Ft. Stockton is great for driving. Watch out for the Mule Deer though.
You could also pull off at Hwy 16 in Kerrville, TX and take that South into Kerrville and through Medina and Bandera and back into I10 in San Antonio... I think that works anyway... James
When you get to about exit 508 in Texas(Kerrville exit), follow these directions. I sent them to Dave Stacy a while back with him starting from san antonio and going out to Kerrville. So, read the directions backwards(last sentence to the first, ex. turn left if saying right, etc.) and it'll get you through some great roads from Kerrville to San Antonio. Hope I'm not too late on the input. When you hit Bandera County, you'll hit their one stop light, lol. That will be Main street, take a right. Follow the Hwy16 signs until you see the FM Road 470 on your left. Take FM470. You'll enjoy this road for a bit until you see where it come to a split, it becomes FM187. Take a right on FM187 and stretch that throttle a little more, you'll be going towards Vanderpool. When arriving in Vanderpool, you'll see a sign to Hwy337 to the right, but there will be a second sign a mile past that going to the left. Fm 337 Turn left: Fm 337 for 15mi(woohoo, more excitement!) Destination: Leakey, centre 96mi 03h08 Now, after you get a drink and some gas.... When you first got to Leaky, you pulled up to a stop sign(gas station to your left). This is Hwy83. To get to your next destination, go right on Hwy83. You'll be on this road for approx. 19 miles until you see Hwy 39 on your right. Take Hwy 39(you'll be on here for about 40 miles). During this leg, you'll get to see a replica of Stonehenge and the Easter Islands Statues. The area has fences, but there is a gate to walk through, no charge to enter this cool place. It's a HUGE pasture. When you're done oogling over the recreations, continue the same direction on 39. 39 will shortly thereafter turn to/merge with Hwy27. Anywhere between 8 & 15 miles down Hwy27, you'll run into Hwy16 again/Sydney Baker. Take a Left on Hwy16/Sydney Baker and this will take you all the way to IH-10. Then you'll just hit IH-10 East to head back towards San Antonio.
