So, yesterday took the car for a quick spin. Pulled in back home and small amount of white smoke was coming out of all 4 exhaust tips. Smelled like a camp fire. Further inspection revealed black-charred acorns exiting the tips. Pulled the air box and filters — clean. Any ideas? Also, a CEL came on now.

One thing for sure, acorns are super plentiful all over this year.

Perhaps a rodent had stored their Winter cache in your pipes?

Sounds like mice had made a home in your exhaust. At least it didn't smell like bacon. All the more reason to drive your car more often, or at least start it more often.

It only takes an hour or so of an open door or other access for mice or chipmunks/ground squirrels to make a larder of your exhaust. I use these to prevent this after having it happen to both car and bike one fall. You can get inexpensive ones at a dollar store, or in the kitchen centers of your local food store, or go with bronze wool from a marine center.

Copper Chore boys are in the Abarth and KTM, rubber stoppers in the Paso. A couple vehicles parked outside get the copper too.
If your vehicle doesn’t want to start, you’ve forgotten to remove them.
