Well, Jennie's side of the family is doing a girls trip to KC for Thanksgiving, which happens to be Mia's birthday. That left me the opportunity to do something special with Mia the weekend before, so we're headed to Disney! We'll spend a couple days in the park staying in one of the resort hotels, but we have a day to explore outside.

We love beaches, what are the best options close to Disney and will it be warm enough? Huntington, Newport etc?

High on her list is also Hollywood. How do you suggest to do Hollywood? Organized tour or just Uber down there and walk around?

Any other must do's we can get done our day away from the park?

We're going to skip San Diego Zoo this time. Thanks.

Hollywood's kinda spread-out for uber unless you rent one for the day. Or maybe uber to Universal/City-walk and do a day of that? Or carry-on going passed Hollywood and give the karts at Willow Springs the bidness?

Hey, if you're in the Hollywood area, immediately adjacent is Los Feliz. There, you'll find Griffith Park has healthy hiking trails & if you go off the beaten path, you can come back smelling like sage.

I got family there so I go regularly.

    Petersen Auto museum
    Bestia restaurant (Dinner)
    Grammy museum
    Bottega Louie restaurant (Lunch)
    Hike Runyon canyon
    The old Observitory
    Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock house

Hollywood: Just uber to Chinese theater and walk around. It won’t take long to loop around the street. You can also see Kimmel there. If you feel like catching a movie it’s cool experience to see a movie in the ArchLight Hollywood theater. That location is historic. Usually they have movie props in the lobby.

The real Hollywood isn’t a great idea for kids imo. If she wants to see where movies are really made, that would be Burbank. Universal Studios is great and I beleve Warner Bros. Studios has a tour. Going to a show taping is a lot of fun as well and free.

How old is your daughter Rob? I was thinking LEGO Land is supposed to be fun or Queen Mary in Long Beach.

I did similar Hollywood day tour with my goddaughter, her sister and their mother visiting from Europe few years ago.
Girls were about 15 & 13 at the time and seem to have enjoyed that approach enormously.
Santa Monica/Venice Beaches were to their preferred choice, probably due to familiarity through Movies and TV.

If the weather is good bike ride the strand in Redondo Beach. It could be mid 60's to low 70's. Locals are off the beach but it could be very nice and you would have it nearly to yourself. You could fly kites and not hit anyone.

Lunch is definitely worth it. For dinner you need to have pants and proper attire. Which would be fine, but you don't want to schlep all that around with you. Not to mention the food at Disneyland is awful . If you can't get Club 33, then Blue Bayou is the next best. The reservations book up fast. In the fact that maybe I can pull it off.... How many in your party?

Also skip Hollywood, it's a big let down. I can say this because I was born there and I still work there :(

I'd probably stay in Newport Beach

Definitely do California Adventure. The Cars ride is classic Disney. Arrive at the park early and immediately get your Fastpass for the Cars ride. (If you are staying at the resort, you can get in early so it will not be an issue) It gets very busy.

Yeah, you have to do the Park Hopper to have both parks at D'Land. "Doing" Hollywood though? It's not like there's one specific solution for doing Hollywood.

Star's Homes tours aren't horrible. Breakfast on Sunset Plaza (BONUS for you if you're there the weekend of the monthly car show) Walking on Rodeo Dr, Malibu Country Mart and a drive up there, seeing places that were in movies are all good things to do. Universal Studios Tour is fun too, if having already done D'Land doesn't burn everyone out on crowds and lines. I highly recommend the VIP pass at Universal though so you can skip a lot of the drama.

So Sunday we want to do beech and some Hollywood. I saw only recommendation was "Santa Monica/Venice Beaches". We'll Uber from Disney hotel, is water warm enough for swimming, we really want to swim if feasible. Where exactly to go?
