How does this dude have not one...but two reality shows ? He's got the personality of a snail. I keep running across his 'Fantasy Factory' show and I have yet to find it even mildly entertaining. He has no charisma...no personality...nothing. Anyone here a fan that can help me understand why people care about this dude ?
+1 I wont say that I haven't watched a few of his episodes. But, the show's (him) are very stale - I think his 2 shows have been successful because of his popularity in the skateboarding scene, and where majorty of his viewers are young teenage skaters.
I'm a fan of the show from both an entertainment and production standpoint. TV has changed substantially in the dozen or so years - faux reality shows are the craze due to margins. Think of how much it costs MTV to take a warehouse, build a few ramps, throw in a basketball hoop or two, and hire a vapid blonde and 19 year old kid.. I personally preferred when it was him and Big Black - but, from what I understand, their friendship was severed due to money and contractual issues (shame!). Rob is a very likeable character as people can relate to him and his family. We watch the show for mindless entertainment on a Sunday night when they're facing the school/work week and don't want to get off the couch. That, and endemic advertisers can easily identify their target audience with this show. There is a significant contextual relevance to the in-show ad placements (sidekick phones, monster energy drinks, DC shoes, etc).. $$$
I was never a skate boarder, but like Rob and the 1st show, don't know anything about the 2nd one. "Big" or whatever his name is makes the show too.
I personally think he seems to be a nice guy and has a likeable personality, albeit obnoxious at times. But don't/haven't we all had one friend like that? I've read up on him a little bit and he's helped fund/open several skate parks around the country. And I'm sure he works a lot more than it appears on tv. Since he does have a stake in the DC company, and his own clothing line. I like Rob and Big a lot more than Fantasy Factory. But damn it, foam pits, and getting launched off of a blob is fun.
I think he's funny even though the shows are obviously heavily scripted. He seems like he would be funny no matter what.
I have no issues with him as a person...probably a great guy. I just dont think he's funny or charismatic. Hes a dead fish on camera.
You are looking for entertaining and you turn to MTV? I'd rather watch a marathon of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. That's entertainment!
Its unfortunately on when I am running on the treadmill. There is VERY little selection at that time of day. I am not just suffering through whatever is on E! When I am working out is the only time I turn on the TV except to watch a dvd
I've known Rob for about ten years now. We used to be on the same skate team. I can tell you he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Never an ego.
I thought Rob & Big was pretty funny with all their goofy schemes and antics, but the fantasy factory isn't that good. Nitro Circus is much more entertaining...the monster truck backflip was epic.
I am a younger person and think the show appeals to people because who doesn't want a huge foam pit. I'm pretty sure it is the extras that make the show so much fun. I met Rob at a demo one time and he was a great guy. I would love to hang out with him for a few hours.
Both of his shows are entertaining because it seems like he is a fun guy to hang out with. I will say that Nitro Circus is much more entertaining than Fantasy Factory.
He's very calm, down to earth, when outside of his 'stage' personality. He's the only one to pull off a show like Fantasy Factory, and I admire his continued success...
I love the show, and aspire to someday have an office similar to the Fantasy Factory. That tennis ball gun could replace the "Hang in there" kitty poster for motivational purposes. ''Yeah that's a great idea Bob. It's so good I'll give you a 5 second head start!" Foam pit to be replaced with Ferrari parking.
