What do you intend to do with the exhaust? Leave as is? My car has 360 Challenge headers and a custom built muffler set up. Sounds OK but still not as mean as I like. My Challenge stuff is safely tucked away. Was considering a Capristo muffler but not sure of the cost/benefit analysis. I do love the F1 wail though. I'm thinking my headers might affect the power and sound but not sure how.
I love the capristo the best on a 355! I've inly heard them on street cars though so it might be even better with the lack of cats on the track car. My Berlinetta has a Tubi and it is great also. I'll let you know how it goes. I think it's hard to go wrong with any variant of 355 with any exhaust. The limit on db might dictate for us based on the track and their regulations. Robb
I asked Classic Coach not to repaint mine. There's a lot of track history on those covers... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We have photos of its track history - and the bumps and bruises... So we're up for a spring cleaning. Robb
Robb, Does your 355 Challenge have the front support modification to allow the dual spring setup? The 99 Manual shows the required mod, I think it's due to the spring spacer (Item #32) to allow fitment when the car is ultra low with loads of camber. A picture of your front shock support area would be nice if possible? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Steve Earle is one of my all-time favorite Challenge drivers - fast, successful, but more importantly, all-around super nice guy. Always jovial, never a bad word (that I heard) about anyone. Great fun to talk with. And you can tell him I said so! gp (p.s. - I have a few Steve Earle stories of my own! )
Stanislaus, Robb should not have to make any modifications to his front shock mounts as his is a M.Y. 1998 car. The 1994 and 1995 F355s had thin 1.5 mm shock mounts which were prone to cracking with upgraded springs. This was corrected in M.Y. 1996. See my previous post and the two threads I referred to: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143555425-post34.html Barry
Bumps my butt I just ordered all new steel for the front of mine. wheel houses, HL panel etc. Going to correct much of the "patina" I would call it nerfing LOL So the entire nose will be new under the carbon fibre. Going to measure it out on a frame machine to be on the money here
Barry, Thanks! I was not referring to structural modification. Yes, I have read and seen your previous post for the 95 cars. I was referring to the 99 Spec that requires the removal of bracing to allow for the CH helper spring perch/spacer (item #32 & #29) to fit. The Challenge Lower Springs are larger diameter and the fitment is tight, more so when it compresses in the turns. SRR
Stanislaus, I see what you mean now. When my front shock mounts were fabricated, the technician shaped and contoured the bracing so there would be no interference with the spring/shock absorber assembly. I can see how the stock mount would require cutting at "the dotted lines" to provide the necessary clearance. My original thin shock mount appears to have originally been cut and bent to provide that clearance. I have the 2200/900 lb springs. Barry . 2200 lb springs took their toll, Pete. Strangely, there was no damage on the passenger side. The same modification was made... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It sure is. I'd also like to see pictures of the M.Y. 1996-1999 upgraded mounts and Challenge modifications. My tech took careful measurements of the spring/shock components when he fabricated the mounts... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Repairs held up well and my shocks were sent to Rob at Delta Vee to be rebuilt last year... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK. Back on topic. It has been a good week with more vintage photos arriving and paperwork to boot. We have assembled the historical logos on our car from the 1998 season. Here is a snapshot of how things are lining up. Obviously there will be some fine-tuning. It will be fun to see in full color. Being into photoshop has it's perks I guess...
