Call me crazy, but Kubica strikes me as a very intense and focused fellow. I would not be surprised if he stepped right in and was on it again from the word go.
That's what I'm hoping for. I'd love it if he's back in F1 back on his old form...that would be incredible. Even on form lacking, as long as he beats Stroll that'll work for me.
I also suspect / hope that if he does not beat Stroll, Kubica will decide to give up and retire sooner than planned. Having Kubica fighting for good positions would certainly make up for an impressive story, but I'm still not convinced it's going to happen (although I wish it will).
That's my impression too. Gives himself till summer break and evaluate from there, Williams to have an option on Paul Di Resta or even Kvyat, or take Mercedes money for Wehrlein.
Mercedes is not supporting Wehrlein anymore and Di resta comes without sponsors too so the alternative is likely gonna be Russian.
yep, a whole host of names out there: Sirotkin, di Resta, Werlhein, and Kvyat, Rowland..........even 2x retired ex F1 driver Massa. Maybe Kimi was right during that press conference about Massa.
Wasn't aware that Mercedes didn't support him anymore. that's the end of that road then as I only suggested him for the monetary influence . I'm not sure how much backing Kvyat still has, probably not that much, but he is a proven driver (without injuries) so easier to gauge Stroll's process (or lack of it). Di Resta has been out of F1 a long time, so Stroll being beaten by him will also see the lack of process...
Driver has to be over 25 per Martini sponsorship. Rowland claims he is in contract talks with Williams who shot that down immediately. Spreading false rumours is a quick way to see you out of an F1 forever...
https://www.thisisf1.com/2017/10/23/pascal-wehrlein-set-to-lose-mercedes-backing/ If he hasn’t lost full support anymore he sure hasn’t got much left. Sirotkin or Kyvat might have good Russian money with them
My understanding was that Rowland's management team had been in talks with Williams, but only to discuss the possibility of Rowland becoming a development driver and nothing else. Nothing had been agreed, and a 2018 F1 seat was never even mentioned, but despite that, Rowland's management team decided to announce that their driver was in the running to be Stroll's new team mate for 2018, and Rowland did nothing to set the record straight. Williams will have been seriously unimpressed by this (and I suspect they may not be the only team in F1 to be unimpressed by it either!). All in all, not a smart move by Rowland or his management team!
