Perhaps some have heard of this event but I figured I'd post it as I'm a participant.

The Robin Hood Rally will be at Pocono Raceway this Friday, April 23rd for a 'shakedown' pre the Rally racing events. It should be an interesting time, rumor is someone is participating in their F40!

If FChat members plan to attend please come see us, we'll be running the black '08 WRX STi. We'll also be keeping a log of the events, best we can, on our website - first one is here:

Not sure if I should have posted this in the "Other Racing" forum instead/too, but figured at least here people from the region might see it and want to come check out the event.

    Regards,
    Ryan

Their website still looks like a scam.

This link confirms its not going to air on NBC.

    http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/station/as-seen-on/Reality___Robinhood_Rally_is_not_NBC_Production_Hartford.html

Just checked their sample roads links. Have they posted what roads will be used? 'Tail of the Devil'! Do some research. And no way Yosemite or Shenadoah National Park are going to give road-use permits for such foolishness.

The detailed rally rules are more about how to submit your money than required safety items, how they are weighting cars, regulations on car mods, ....

You're right, it's not an NBC production, not really sure what you're trying to prove there.

Also not sure what was so offensive about the blog link that warranted it being taken down...

As I mentioned, first event is at Pocono on Friday. From there it's northern NH May 21-22 and then down the East Coast through November. They've updated their website.

I saw that they website was updated last night.

The whole thing is still a bad idea. Seems a case of several guys with urge to rallyrace on TV and some internet skills decieded they know how to organize 10 stage rallies without knowing what is involved. No one mentioned anywhere on the website has any rally experience. No one. Just because I watched skydiving on TV doesn't mean I can pack a parachute.

They claim to be offering 7-12 mile stages. To pull this off they will need 50-100 trained volunteers for stage security alone. Where are they coming from? Eastern US is heavily populated and without proper stage marshalls, either a spectator or a local pulling out of a driveway, a hunter of a trail, people who jog on that road every single day. A closed public road is not a controlled racetrack. Real rally sanctioning bodies have very detailed procedures, established clubs to draw volunteers from, ....which these guys do not.

Roll cages aren't required?! Are they nuts? Racing on roads is not a HPDE track day. There are no gravel traps, runoff areas or tirewalls. Trees, stone walls, drop-offs hurt when you you smack them. Check out a FIA rally rollcage and you'll see they are beefier than most roadracing cages for a reason.

WRC rallycars required to have a turbo restrictor for a reason. You'll find every sanctioning body in the world (US and Canada were last to adopt) requires them for professional rally drivers. But the amatuers entered for a hopeful TV show can drive better and without a cage.

WRC (and US & Canada) limit the average stage speed to ~ 80MPH for safety. Any stage that the winning average stage time is faster than that average must be changed before being run again in future rallies. Its difficult finding those types of roads in the US. We drive BIG cars and have big 18-wheelers and the roads were built for them. Watch any European tarmac rally and you'll see them on narrow single lane roads. Our roads are super-highways in comparision and the reason you find only 2 tarmac rallies in the states and one uses roads too fast.

Wait till you see how well a road race or stock suspension handles landing a BIG jump. Its either going to bounce drivers off road, compress to point that tires hit wheel wells and jerk car offroad or fail.

Sad thing is that Gorham NH host the New England Forest Rally and any tragic occurance by the Robin Hooligan Rally could jeapordize the relationship of the real sport and the community there.

Funny thing is that for much less than $1000, I can enter a real rally in Canada with hundreds of stage miles, thousands of spectators and be on TV in English and French in Canada and Europe or ~ $1000 entry fee each, enter 6 Rally America rallies and go to X-Games to be on ABC and ESPN.

These are valid concerns and it sounds like you've got real rally experience.

I asked some similar questions and was assured there will be corner workers and SCCA marshals throughout the course. Also agree about the car prep, our car will have a cage, FIA seat, 6pt belts, etc to mitigate some risks. That said, I believe they have more in store than the website leads on but only time will tell.

We signed up because it's a completely unique event that could be a challenging and rewarding experience if done correctly. We're looking forward to it and will continue to update progress on our blog, if not Fchat.

    Thanks
    Ryan
