I just picked up a 1/8" rock chip with 3 smaller splatter marks on the hood this morning just 3" above the bumper (only the bumper is fitted with a clear bra). Has any one used Dr Color Chip? I have just ordered a kit in rosso corsa and hope it works. Otherwise it might be a hood respray but that will mean letting South Florida Muppets loose on the car!

others have had success with it if you do a little diggin on the forums you should find some positive feedback. I've never used it though.

also just a consideration, but you may want to get the clear bra extended. on my families 458 we have the entire front of the car in a clear bra.

Sorry to hear that, If I may ask, Where did the rocks come from?

Was it in a construction zone or a few rocks comming off a dump truck??

    Thanks

I feel for you. Been there with my 458 when it was a day old. Happened on the GSP on the way to the shore at night.
Went underneath an overpass where a construction ( jack hammering ) showered my car with lots of
concrete debris. Sounded like getting hit by buckshot. I have clear bra up about halfway up the front. Got a few chips on the windshield, hood, penetrated the clear bra. Brought it back to the dealer. Filed a claim against the state. Got reimbursed.
Clear bra is definitely worth it if your gonna drive it a lot.

No it wasn't from construction debris, just something on the road I guess flicked up from the car in front. Didn't even hear anything. I have clear bra on all the front end, side sills, mirrors and that but not the hood because I didn't want it there. It spoils the look of the car. I had it on my previous Ferrari and the bra still ends up getting damaged anyway. In many instances it doesn't warrant the cost really and only offers about 50% protection.

It's funny because when I picked my 458 up from the dealer 2 months ago, I wasn't gone more than 5 miles when a large rock went right over my car. A sigh of relief as it looked more like a meteorite! Seconds later my wife (travelling directly behind me in her Range Rover) calls me and says a rock just hit her screen. I guess that rock wasn't meant for me!

It seems as soon as you buy something new, there is always that first incedent that spoils the new feel.

When I first purchased my 430, I took it for a drive in the hills, which soon as I came around a corner, a mini van was stuck on the side of the road giving the gas which was throwing gravel all over the place which peppered my car. I tried to turn around on the mountain road but was a little to late, she was gone. So I ended up with rock chips on the 430 which just puts you in crappy frame of mind.

I would think, however, the clear protection would be the way to go. I just bought a scuderia and had it covered just about everywhere you could accept the doors. I do not think it makes it look bad? I think I recieved a deal having it installed-----so why not.

I did notice that the 458's do not come with the factory protection as the 430's did. With that said, when i buy a 458 I will probably cover it as well.

This stuff works best on fine, small chips and is intended to "hide" imperfections. It will probably fill a 1/8" chip with a few applications but you may be able to see where it was applied when standing next to the car on a chip that size. I know the feeling and dread the first chip on the 458....

I believe Rick has used it on his California with good results.
