I think Lance is more angry at himself that Charles actually. If he thinks Charles was too aggressive - Quote Lance -"I gave him all the room I could. It was unlucky but he could’ve avoided it. He didn’t have to run so wide into me." he has another day coming when Vettel is in a bad emotional mood or he is next to Max who will be in a hurry to pass him. Grow up Lance...............

Aside from Lance's shunt, albeit not his fault, there was team radio telling Lance to "Turn off the car"....Lance's reply "It's off" ...but the car was'nt off so team radio responded again giving Lance instructions to turn off the car.

So Lance has been a year and half in this car....has had 2 issues with the energy button and mic button(confused) and now has had an issue turning off the car correctly.

Maybe the shunt and the frustration got him all discombobulated......but I digress.

Here's one to stir things up....

Had the exact same incident taken place and it was Hamilton rather than Charles contacting Stroll, Hamilton would have been penalized.

Lance' only issue was his complaining to the press over an incident that was not at all out of control. He acted as if he lost the race and the world ended. He has to get a bit more tough to deal with real racers like Charles. They are not going away and he is to face one in his team next. Vettel keeps a wide car. Just ask Charles. I see the incident more to Lance being impatient and passing on the outside, always difficult on a track that was not getting wider post apex. His pass was opportunistic and Charles had a right to defend a good line he had. Racing incident and Lance needs to see there will be more of those and some going his way and others not.

From the article you posted in #3894 Lance apparently knew how to shut off the engine during Q2. Guess that is not the same as turning the car off.

    Interesting comment.

I had some similar thoughts recently. I can't say whether the FIA wants to punish him for his political outspokenness (wearing a political t-shirt at the podium ceremony) or whether they are trying to keep the championship more open and less of a forgone conclusion. But the fact that he ends up with somewhat silly penalties which robbed him of a certain victory at Monza and Sochi is a bit odd. Not that I mind, but it smells a bit of 94 and the draconian punishments heaped upon Schumacher, which kept the title chase interesting.

This yr has definitely been different in this regard than prior yrs. However, the reasons for his penalties this yr are no different than others have been penalized for this yr or prior yrs. Equal enforcement of the rules is what we should expect.

But has to Stroll, it was a racing incident and I don't believe anyone would/should be penalized for that.

The typical Lewis driving style would have been not to put his car in a position where he could hit another car.
Thus, no penalty would have been contemplated.

Lance had clearly passed Charles who was trying to retake the position when he hit
Lance, definitely not Lance’s fault. Lance went from 17th to 7th, just behind Perez when the incident occurred. Quite a good start if not for Leclerc’s sloppy driving.

Lance and sloppy Austria LOL Ask Ricci to provide his assessment lol. Oh here it is lol :) Lance is hardly a wheel to wheel star. He got away with his 'move' on Ricci and was happy it was rated an 'incident' with no penalty. Shame he screams like a little school girl over Charles. Lance............the pathetic.

    https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ricciardo-stroll-desperate-move-austria/4832562/

--Ricciardo felt Stroll deserved a penalty for the clash but in a post-race FIA race stewards investigation no action was taken on the Racing Point driver for the incident.

Ricciardo strongly disagreed with the outcome, having felt he needed to take action to avoid crashing with the Canadian driver.

"Firstly he didn't really get past, he forced both of us off the track," Ricciardo said to Sky Sports F1.

"I'll always be critical of myself and I should have closed the door but I don't think he was ever making the move so I think it was desperate.

"I think Lando was coming and I think he had to do something otherwise Lando was going to eat him up. I take the apex and we crash, so that is a frustrating end and we lost a position to Lando.

"I think we will get the one back on Stroll, but it still doesn't… it is a bit of a shame to end the race like that."--

It's not covid related. Nothing has come out yet as to what the "illness" is.

Racing Point explains Stroll's condition which forced him out of F1 Eifel GP

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Racing Point Formula 1 boss Otmar Szafnauer says Lance Stroll had to withdraw from the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring because "he couldn't get off the toilet".

Stroll felt so unwell this morning that he eventually told the team he wouldn't be able to drive in FP3, and later confirmed he would also miss qualifying, meaning he would need to withdraw from the Eifel GP - leading to the team calling on Nico Hulkenberg as a late replacement.

Szafnauer explained Stroll had not been feeling well after the Russian GP and was then hit by a stomach upset in Germany on Thursday evening.

Szafnauer said that despite not feeling well Stroll had tested negative for COVID-19.

"He hasn't been feeling great since Russia," he explained. "I think he had a bit of a cold. At first we thought, 'Well you had better get tested for the virus.'

"We've tested him multiple times, including the pre-event test for this race. And he's come back negative three or four times. He doesn't have the classic COVID-19 symptoms, he just doesn't feel well in himself.

"And last night he had a bit of an upset stomach. So he was on the toilet the whole time. And he said, 'I've got rid of a lot of fluid, and I can't get off the toilet for long enough to get in the race car.'

"I don't know if it's something he ate, or if it's a tummy bug. He just said, 'I'm just not feeling up to it. We're going to have a double-header coming up soon. And I'd rather rest and get ready for that.'

"We were hoping that he was going to get better. He had kind of flu-like symptoms. Just not well in himself, and couldn't exercise, and so now that, with whatever he ate or a tummy bug together, he said, 'I can't do it.' We've got a doctor looking after him and when he's fit to leave, he'll go home."

Stroll's car stayed in the garage during FP3 with reserve driver Hulkenberg only able to drive in qualifying after he underwent a rapid COVID-19 test in order to gain paddock access. Hulkenberg will start from 20th and last place on the grid.

Szafnauer said the final decision on Stroll not driving was taken just before practice, which is why Hulkenberg was not on site.

"Thirty minutes before FP3. He [Stroll] was still thinking, 'I want to do this.' But then he thought, 'Well, if I don't get better, then I've got to qualify, and then I've got to race.' And it's the race that he wasn't really looking forward to, in the state that he was in," Szafnauer said.

"He was hoping that he could get off the toilet and come in. But it was 30 minutes before FP3. Otherwise yesterday we would have called Hulkenberg a day earlier, and he would have done FP3."

Szafnauer admits that jumping in for qualifying with no time to adapt in practice was a big challenge for Hulkenberg: "It was a huge ask, and we're just thankful that he got within 107% rule, that's what we wanted to do, so he could race tomorrow.

"He's got a decent race car underneath him. He's done a few laps now. And if he gets a good start, he's got a chance at points.

"We made some changes to the car since he drove it last. He was surprised by the changes that we made. He said the car felt different because of it. He's got to get used to it. Overall, he was happy the balance wasn't that far off."

Szafnauer also said if Hulkenberg had not been available Stoffel Vandoorne, the team's other designated reserve driver, would have got a chance.

"He was in the paddock. He had a negative COVID test, and he was ready to go. Just with Nico, we had his seat here, we know exactly where the pedals go," he said.

"We don't have to adjust the pedals and some of the other things that we would have had to go through with Stoffel. So it was easier."
