Is putting in consistent laps at a decent pace and coming third not racing or am I missing something?

I didn't say the dude was great but to call that a humiliation is hilarious behind a keyboard. He is not a great driver but he started 10th. Didn't smash. Didn't make any passes through the entire race. Put in lap after lap. Finished 3rd.

 

I don't recall him completing a pass.

Don't forget when he almost punted Ocon on the final restart!

 

Depends on what your perception of " a pass" is.

There's "a pass" when drivers are in the pits.

There's "a pass" on the race track.

Stroll did'nt do the latter.

 

Keke won a championship that way. Not crashing, just doing laps after laps while everybody else crashed out. Was lucky to even score one win on his way to the title.

Not saying Lance will ever win a WDC but there is nothing wrong with staying the course while others are on self-destruct mode.

I agree, for someone with his lack of talent he is doing exceptionaly well! Of course the fact that he is driving the 3ºrd or 4ºth fastest car helps....and i mean car, not team...

Too many DNFs:
- 3 races lost to Covid (Perez 2, 1 Lance)
- 3 races lost to being torpedoed by competitors (Lance 2, Perez 1)
- 3 races lost to mechanical issues (Perez 1, Lance 2)

and that's just from my recent memory, there probably were more if I'd bother to look up all the cases

Yes I have to say, dumping Perez when they did already made no sense, but since then it's only been proven more and more it's the craziest move. Why bother paying Vettel that much more, when the results aren't going to be much better? I believe Perez brings sponsorship, too...Vettel isn't that marketable, either.

To a point, yes. He humiliated Albon and Stroll particularly. Max, Leclerc & both Merc drivers where out of it. Others could be argued they have the slower car/engine.

 

If Perez didn’t have his issues would have lapped him, maybe twice on that track

 

It seems that Stroll has made progress this year but that its margin of progress is now almost zero. His father won’t be able to do anything to take the last step.

 

Ralf Schumacher was asked what drivers do not deserve to be in F1. His answer:

Albon, Magnussen, Giovinazzi, Grosjean

Didn't mention Stroll whom many on here call the least deserving of a F1 seat. Just saying.

Stroll goes from being routinely beaten by his teammate at Williams to being soundly trounced by his teammate at Tracing Point.

But he is going faster and getting better results in a much faster Mercedes now, so he is automatically improving as a driver?

The car is better year after year giving the illusion of a driver who is improving. We’re close to the end of what Stroll Father can do to flatter the son’s abilities.
