This is obvious. Stroll senior would never sacked his son even to replace him with Verstappen or Leclerc! Irrationality and efficiency aren’t good friends when it comes to top level sports.
Actually his first time was with Jordan at Silverstone for some tests. He was so fast around the track the team thought he was cheating and took a shortcut.
True, but then burning the clutch at the start put a bit of a damper on that weekend. Rookie mistake but at least it was obvious he had speed and talent.
I have had fun imagining Lance’s talent level would equal my own in an F1 car. But lately I’ve found I’m embarrassing myself and I blame EVERYTHING on Pops. It’s like totally no fun right now. If he had just bought me a ride I WANTED to drive instead of making me drive HIS car, I bet I’d be killing it right now. Think he couldn’t get me in an Alfa or Haas this year? What a joke, of course he could, but NOOOOO, I have to drive THIS thing. Jeez Louise! Even Seb says the car blows and Pop can’t even make the pace car work. So what chance have I got, ay? Bet Seb’s Dad never made him drive something he didn’t want.
Schumacher actually noticed the clutch not behaving properly in the warm up (when we still had that...) and brought it up to get it changed. Eddie Jordan refused as he didn't have the money...
And Flav snatched him away from Eddie before the next race. I assume that he just bought out his contract?
IIRC the contract was for 1 race only. With the above mentioned Silverstone test and the team assuming a mistake was made or even a cheat, the Spa qualifying showed that his pace was real. Eddie tried to argue that the contract was for the rest of the season, not the 1 race. Bernie at the same time knew that Mercedes backed out of a works team so told his buddy Flav to take Schumacher NOW before anyone else could.
The book "The Piranha Club" covers the whole deal in its first chapter. Quite intriguing story, more than just buying out the contract. That book is also otherwise a good read, covers the history of F1 dealings behind the scene.
You're a genious Izzy, maybe you could swap the aston for " Hawthorn", maybe a bit underpowered, but certainly a lot lighter, and on the right colour! Just slap some cognizant stickers on it and you are good to go!
I'm just updating the thread with the same ridiculous standards Stroll gets praised for. Of course it was circumstance and Vettel wasn't actually 6.7 seconds faster than his teammate.
