Maybe you've got him on mute...as he's been doing exactly that. He even found a way to somehow lay blame at Bottas' feet for...having the wheel get stuck on the car in monaco?

Are you referring to Mick or Michael and why is he more deserving than either of them?

I think he had Mick in mind.

As for the answer to your question, maybe you should ask Guenther Steiner.

4th for Alonso and 6th for Lance shows real progress this year, truly fighting to be the second place team against Ferrari and Mercedes, unbelievable progress for Aston and their drivers.

After a good qualifying Aston finished 3rd with Alonso and 4th with Lance both driving pretty solid races considering they were down on top speed. Aston now second in the championship going into Baku.

    Yep, well done Aston !
At least one team has progressed this winter and brought out a competitive car by the look of it.
    Quite a reversal of fortune.

As Crofty pointed out Christmas came early for Stroll with the gifted 4th in this turbulent race. Nonetheless an awesome result for Aston Martin.

A very good start of the year for Aston Martin; I hope they keep it up.

Surely it's the team that has the most progressed since last season.

GIFTED 4th for Stroll is an understatement. The guy didn't move up the grid the whole race. He stayed P6 for the majority of the race. He moved up 2 places due to the carnage of that 3rd restart-->Sainz clipping Alonso(Penalty) and Gasly taking out his team-mate Ocon.

Good points haul nonetheless for both drivers.

Sometimes that "strategy" pays off. Running at your own pace, and keeping your nose clean all through the race, is a good way to get to the finish unscathed, and maybe collect a few points.

Anybody who can drive a F1 car in anger is light years above anybody here in talent. You’re fans, I get it. But you show how small you are when you criticize someone’s driving abilities who is doing what you can never, or will never, do.

I didn’t watch again but I’m sure he actually went off and almost beached it at the 3rd restart and might have been behind Alonso.

I had to look back at the data as quite honestly didn't see him all race, but he actually had a VERY solid race today. The AM was NOT faster than the Merc this weekend. Stroll was looking at P6 prior to the madness but more importantly he was around 6-8 seconds back from Alonso.

    Credit where it's due etc.

    And just for the record:

Right now Stroll is ahead in points of Leclerc and equal to Sainz. Just saying.

A little over a week ago I was running an LMP3 car in Europe first in Italy (Cremona) and then at Paul Ricard. My teammates were two young chargers aged 17 and 21 (man did I suddenly feel old) and I spent several days talking with them about the current landscape to get to F1. In addition to the kids I was able to talk at length with their managers and parents all which were at the track.

The general consensus is that the concept that you can buy yourself onto the F1 grid is flawed. The reality is that the high lever junior formula's are overflowing with incredibly well funded and talented kids and at the sharp end nobody is in a position to out-spend their rival. This starts all the way in karts and (while there is some financial attrition along the way) generally the people who are making a serious go at it have no issues paying the current rate of about 20 million Euros to give their kid a legitimate shot at F1. Even then there are LOTS of failed attempts with that amount being spent that you will never hear of so you can be sure that the guys who make it to F1 (even Latifi) are among that handful of best drivers in the world.

One other interesting thing to note is that with me being Canadian the subject of the Stroll's came up. Again getting back to the people I was speaking to they were all quite complimentary of how Lawrence Stroll went about organizing his racing for Lance. He was by no means the wealthiest guy playing in that sandbox but he became a student of the sport and clearly understood where to direct his efforts to help his son. Of course Lance did have to be good and prove himself but it was by no means a situation of throwing cubic dollars at it to mask deficiencies in Lance.

The guys I was talking to had EVERY reason to want to bash Stroll but had the humility to accept that the kid is F1 quality and that he very much earned his place on the grid. It seems as though the biggest Lance haters continue to be people who really don't understand the workings of the sport and have this fantasy idea of Cinderella success stories that just don't mirror reality.

Lance has a seriously good car underneath him now,he has done some great opening first laps or two which is impressive. Also can shine in the wet.Expect a couple or more podiums this year if he keeps his nose clean.

Three F1 weekends and three F1 podiums for Fernando Alonso have the Spaniard sitting P3 in the standings in another 2023 race where the two-time champion outshone teammate Lance Stroll.

Stroll picked up his season-best finish of P4. However, like Perez, he benefited from Sainz's five-second penalty and Gasly's race-ending crash on the second restart to boost that final classification.

While Alonso kept on Hamilton's tail, Stroll dropped behind George Russell and Gasly on the first restart before losing another place when Sainz sailed by at Turn 9.

Although Stroll isn't at risk of losing his seat for obvious reasons, he's rapidly turning into the de facto number two driver at the green team he's spent four seasons with. Alonso is outperforming the Canadian far more than any of his predecessors had.

Stating the obvious here! Different levels of skill .

But there are many de facto #2 drivers in F1, don't you think ?

This stance - applied to many topics - I really cannot get.
A mediocre surgeon is certainly better at his job than I ever could be (I am no more a surgeon than an F1 driver, to be clear), but does it have to be an "out-of-jail" card for all poor professional performances ?
