Yuki and Lance as teammates? Definitely at the bottom end of a mid-field team then.

They could also take Ricciardo as reserve driver :D
Definitely the ideal way of fulfilling Lawrence Stroll's ambition of championship wins.

There was no reality check, Lance drove today like a good journeyman, confirming the opinion of his supporters.

This is exactly my point. He gets 1 quality drive that is still well off his teammate, granted it is Alonso. But his supporters talk it up like he has again proven he obviously deserves to be in F1. But lets put it into context.

He got beat by Alonso and finished 7th prior to penalties. Hamilton, Russell, and Max all DNF'd. Most likely would have finished 10th at best. Since Russell had been better than Hamilton, Alonso likely would have finished 7th ahead of both Mercedes but behind Max. In many ways his best meets the bare minimum of expectation.

He had a good race. Like you said, a pretty much flawless race. He was kind of in his own world today and got a good result. I don't think we need to lose track of reality and pretend this one event is proof of a delusion of how good he is.

Lance did great by attrition....not on merit in todays race.

In that case what does it say about Sainz's win?

Attrition is a part of motor racing. It's almost always there and it hurts some while it benefits others.

    Exactly !!

Why is attrition welcome "when my team wins", but sneered at when if benefit someone you don't like ?

Is that another case of double standard ? ;)

No it's not a cheap shot, it's fact. Lance is a competent but mediocre F1 driver who has a drive only through his father's great wealth(and ego). Nothing cheap about it, it's cost Lawrence 100's of millions of dollars. What an incredible ROI!

Maybe you are not familiar with the expression, but the cheap shot was the comment on post #6630
"Lance did great by attrition....not on merit in todays race".
If Lance benefited from attrition, who was the one who benefited most of it today ? The winner: Carlos Sainz !!
As for money, there is nothing wrong in Lawrence Stroll lavishing $millions on his son, IMO.

If that makes you and the F1 drivers that benefit from it feel good then so be it.

Yes, attrition is part of F1 and it rarely comes but it's not a measure of someone's race-craft for the whole season.

Reality will eventually win the season over....always has.

True, but again it's not a measure of ones ability for the whole season with regards to Lance Stroll. He's not championship material.

I have never heard anyone saying he was; the consensus tends to say he is a journeyman among others.
He nevertheless can benefit from attrition in a race, like any other driver without his result being questioned.

As usual he passed on driver in the first lap (while Alonso went one place backwards).

Alonso got lucky with his first pit stop under VSC. That gifted him a couple spots. Let's be realistic here.

How do you think the year is going to go with Alonso vs Stroll in seasonal points?

They shouldn't be compared; they are at different skill levels.
But Lance is far from useless and often performs well in his category.

Got it. According to most on here from a track performance perspective disagree with that statement. From a financial perspective, no money no team.

Like I've said before, Lance is impervious to F1 stats because he doesn't fit your normal F1 driver when compared to his team-mates over the course of his career.

Lance is not responsible for his results. He is not subject to the same scrutiny or assessment by his 'leadership'. Nothing about Lance is accountable. His continued existence is down to resources by family. Not results.
